Saturday April 30, 2005 is the numerical winner. Sunday preferences makes May 1st a consideration. However, there are two persons that can do the 30th and not the 1st. And, only one person who can do the 1st but not the 30th. So, to maximize fairness to all people, it appears that April 30, 2005 is the the date unless substantial change takes place between now and Wednesday.

Event: Santa Monica Mountains, Neptune's Net lunch (possibly Paradise Cove for a change if I'm able to arrange for parking) followed by a return up Latigo Canyon.

This will be our usual canyon run. The lead cars will be available for those who wish to go a little faster. The slower cars should plan to be from the middle of the pack to the end. Please consider bringing FRS radios just incase you get side-tracked or lost.
Safety first. We don't want to see anyone get hurt or Z's damaged. So, keep it sane. Lastly, please note this disclaimer: neither I nor the forum are event planners and all attendees individually assume the risk and liability for any bodily injury or property damage.

CHP Unveils Traffic-Safety Program Targeting Illegal Street Racing
Authorities Thursday unveiled a traffic-safety program for the Santa Monica Mountains designed to target the problems of illegal street racing and other unsafe driving practices in the area near Malibu.
Dubbed "Operation Safe Canyons," the enforcement effort will be conducted by teams of California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, said CHP Officer Leland Tang.
"On weekends, there is an increase of recreational vehicles, motorcycles, high-performance vehicles and bicyclists using these roadways," Tang said. "This increase in vehicular traffic creates a higher than normal demand for service calls and enforcement."
Tang said that the area's mountainous canyon roads "provide an environment for some motorists to engage in high-speed racing and other unsafe driving practices."
He said an increasing problem has been the organization of illegal events by use of the Internet.
Among the problems in the area:
Motorcycles and other vehicles being driven recklessly on Mulholland Highway, past the residential community west of Decker Canyon.
Motorcycles and other vehicles racing on Stunt Road.
High-performance vehicles racing into the early hours of the mornings on Stunt Road and neighboring canyon roads.
Motorcycles and other vehicles traveling in the wrong direction on Tuna Canyon Road while driving in a reckless manner.
And various instances of motorists driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
"Our goal is to create and maintain an environment that promotes a safe and enjoyable use of the Santa Monica Mountains region for all," Tang said.
Also involved in the program will be Assembly Member Fran Pavley's office, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's office, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

I drove Mulholand Highway this morning to get some breakfast at Rock Store. I ran into CHP no less than 5 times including two CHP on bikes, three in squad cars and had zero radar detector hits. Passing bikers were giving each other the "slow it down" hand signals everywhere. Needless to say, it's stupid to go over 45 mph or 50 mph for large portions of Mulholand and 35 mph where it says 35.
Whoever is taking point needs to recognize that CHP is out in force and to avoid ruining a good time, to keep speeds in check. Thanks for your post Duane, I was going to say something after I saw what was up and yours drives the point home.
