Default Need everyones advice!

Hello. Heres the deal, I currently drive a 97' BMW 328iS and I'm planning to sell it for around 9k. I was planning on purchasing a Base Z. My price range is around 20-30k, no more than 30k out the door. But of course, the cheaper the better in my case. I finally decided sitting here on my lazy *** admiring other peoples cars wasn't the thing to do. I plan to put a 6k$ down payment from the bimmer. Is 1k$ a month enough to support monthly payments + an average drivers insurance? The base z for its price is pretty much the best bang for the buck, however if anyone has any other suggestions on a 20k-30k price range car, persuade me. Most importantly, what's the best final price out the door for a base z here in So Cal. Let me see some numbers. Thanks.

I managed to get my 2004 perf Z for 30500 OTD

carbuyingtips.com is great, they have a spreadsheet which I used and managed to get the dealer to give me the price I wanted.

If your hardcore on getting a new one get the enthusast, its well worth the extra few thousand.
If not buy a used Z. They can be found for 24-28K Even nicer ones like the touring are going that cheap.

If that is your budget, consider looking at low mile '04s that are higher end than base models. For 30k you should really be looking for Zs with the limited slip diff and HIDs.

Hm, I see. Yeah I never even realized its only about 2000$ msrp more for an enthusiast but ur getting LSD and HID's. I guess the base Z msrp caught my eyes first. I'll be looking into this. But regardless, a used car is out of the option even with low mileage, the whole point of me buying a new car is so I can break it in myself, tune it and learn from the whole experience/hobby. And thanks for the website, carbuyingtips.com, I read the whole article, although most of it was common sense or things I already knew about stealerships. Anyways, the new question would be.. reasonably speaking, what figures am i looking at OTD, monthly payments etc.
