its awsome here in santa monica, it is definitely cheaper south of pico which is the street SMC is on... but as you go north towards the mountains, it gets more expensive by the block. I live a block north of wilshire, real nice, clean area.

But if you're a student looking for cheaper housing, i would suggest east of santa monica, its much more affordable in West LA.

Check out the Brentwood Adjacent Area, or Palms area. Stay away from Westwood.

I STRONGLY recommend getting an account with Westwide Rentals.

http://www.westsiderentals.com/Default.cfm

It will cost you like $30 or $60 or something, but they have the best listings. It will save you a lot of headaches.

Theres lots of apartment complexes in Marina Del Rey, in a very wide range of prices. I was paying 1450 for a decent sized 1 bedroom. It was on the marina in a pretty nice place.

The apartments in westwood are usually very expensive because of their proximity to UCLA. Also, they are ususally not very big. If you want a larger place and spend less, you may want to look for a roommate and share a place.

Westwood apartments are usually $$$$$$$$$$$ expensive and trashy at the same time. They're designed for people who don't have cars and need to walk to UCLA campus. If you're going to SMC there's no reason to get an apartment in westwood unless you know people at UCLA and want to party. Also parking sucks in westwood, guests will like never be able to park when visitng you. Plus, you might end up parking on the street which sucks *****.

The exception is a few apartments which are considered luxury, but those will be like twice as much to rent. For example "The Legacy at Westwood" has apartments for like $2k / month for like 1 bedroom. Something in that range.

cool, i'll prolly just check out other places aside from the apartments at westwood and ur right about the parking, it would be better if i don't park on the street

+3 on the westsiderentals thing, if you don't want to shell out the bux you can try latimes.com classifieds. If you haven't looked at prices already you better sit down before you do.

If you want proximity to SMC you're probably better of in Venice or Mar Vista. You should also look into Palms and Culver city. If you want to live in Westwood expect to have lots of roommates

Welcome to the West side
