Red face Irvine/Orange folks - I need a favor...

My wife willl get her M.D. in June and we just found out today that she matched with the Surgical Residency program at UCI! I think she'll be working out of the hospital near The City in Orange. I grew up in Mission Viejo so it's a kind of homecoming to come back.

We're in Portland OR right now and I'm starting to look for jobs online but I was hoping someone down in that area could gather up a few newspapers and mail me some of the Classifieds so I can get a feel for what's out there.

I'm a Web Developer/Administrator with about 8 years of development and support experience. I deal with ASP, HTML, javascript, vbscript, SQL, ASP.NET, VB.NET, VB....stuff like that.

I can send PayPal for postage or even cash if that would work. I suppose if you get the Sunday paper, that's all I'd really need for now.

Would anyone be willing to do this for me? I'll buy you a beer once I move.

Thanks!

MaximXL,

I recommend going to Monster.com instead of reading the newspaper. Just create a profile for yourself and put an address that is within SoCal. Recruiter will call you especially with your skills.

Cool thanks. The last time I used Monster I got about two dozen phone calls for interviews....all with hiring agencies. No direct calls from any companies. But one of the agencies actually found me my current job which I love so I guess I'll have to play that game again.

I'll check out OCJobFinder too. Thanks.

You might also want to check out careerbuilder.com... they have a lot of jobs based out of the OC. But since you have a lot of I.T. experience... then dice.com would also be a great reference, they deal with more technical type work. Good luck bro and hope to see you at some of the meets.

Yeah, any decent web dev job is gonna post online I've had good luck using monster.com and flipdog (don't know if they're still around). if you post on monster, with your exp, you'll get calls from a lot of headhunters who will do a lot of the leg work for you too

Hey thanks. I'll check into it!

And thanks for the big welcome everyone. I'll definitely want to get together once I get settled.

Now I need to get my house ready to sell. Ugh.

Hey maximXL.

Congrats to your wife on her new job. I moved down from Portland about 2 years ago and I tell ya it was one of the best moves I've made. The weather alone was well worth it for me! As for finding a new job, the newspaper doesn't have anywhere near the amount of jobs you could qualify for if you went with a placement firm or looked on dice.com, monster.com, etc.

When I looked for employment after moving down here I went with some job listings on dice.com and eventually ended up with a placement firm and got a better job than I thought with ibm. Send me a copy of your resume and I can hook you up with great leads as I'm currently back in the market myself and have found yet another great job that pays more and offers more than I ever thought I could get.

Good luck with the move.

You'll have no problem finding a position in the Irvine area. I work for a mortgage company in their Datacenter. PM me if you want some info...

Rommel-

Do we still work for the same company? How you been?

I like your sig.

Holy cow, Monster is now ad-central. You can't even view your profile without clicking through a mortgage or credit card offer. Ridiculous. But I guess I need to jump through the hoops to find a job.

I applied to a few jobs on Dice (they are also listed at Monster) and am checking out CareerBuilder and OCJobFinder now. There are some cool positions.

Q - How unrealistic is a $100k salary in the area? The housing market is about 3x as expensive as it is here in Portland. Yikes.

Grommit - PM'd you.

You could also try craigslist. For some reason I was always able to find good jobs on there. I'm still working at a company called Electronic Arts out here in Playa Vista that I got from craigslist. I also just graduated from CSUF, so I still know alot of people out there in Orange County that may be able to help you settle in. If you need any help with anything, just pm me.

Thanks. Pretty much everyone I know has moved out of the area by now.

Craigslist did have a bunch of nice positions. Thanks for the tip!
