Default Need advice on road trip up PCH from Huntington to San Fran

My girlfriend and I are taking my dad's C6 Corvette on a road trip up PCH to celebrate her college graduation and I am looking for some pointers on things to see, places to eat, etc. along the way. Here's our schedule.

Day 1: Vegas to Huntington Beach
Day 2: Huntington Beach
Day 3: Santa Barbara
Day 4: San Luis Obispo
Day 5: Carmel
Day 6: San Francisco
Day 7: San Francisco
Day 8: San Francisco to Las Vegas

We already have Huntington Beach pretty much figured out and we know one place we want to have dinner in San Francisco, the rest is up in the air. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hearst Castle is on the way, if you haven't gone yet. Make sure to stop and see the seals.

Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort
9415 Hearst Drive, San Simeon, California 93452

IMO, the best hotel there. I recommend the "ocean view" rooms; they come with king bed, mini bar, fireplace and a great view of the ocean... try to get the first floor so you have a sliding glass door that walks out. Great views! If you want to go all out then get the "ocean front" rooms.

For food, you would have to go to Cambria (roughly 5-7mi south of san simeon on the 1). There are plenty of great/upscale restaurants to choose from. I ate at the Main Street Grill, bbq, cheap and easy.

Well, we are down in San Diego all of the time with VRT and for events and stuff, plus she lived in Laguna during the summer for 2 years. The only reason we are starting in Huntington is because my parents have a place down there so its free lol.

duuuuude, that's awesome. i'm going on a road trip with my gf next week, SF to SD along the 1. here's our initial itinerary:

San Luis Obispo
Santa Barbara
Laguna Beach
Palm Springs (She really wants to see that Joshua Tree Park)
San Diego

We definitely plan to stop @ hearst castle and big sur along the way. Wine country in santa barbara, etc. The weather should be good so I can't wait. We're taking her Honda Civic :P

LOL, thats awesome. Let me know anything else cool that you see along the way. I can offer some help if you want tips for Huntington/Laguna area as I am there quite often. Wine Country is a blast, but I don't think the Santa Barbara area compares to Napa Valley/Sonoma that you are probably used to .

Santa Barbara is fun for older people. Us younger people have limited activities, but it can still be fun more or less. Hit up the Pier, couple of good restaurants out on it. State Street is the place to be for shopping, clubs, bars, and restaurants. I would suggest going to the SB Museum of Art or the Natural History Museum. Butterfly Beach is the better of the beaches to go to as it is more seculded/quiet.

350znv, i have a list of things we pulled out from some tour books that are focused on the coast. when i get home, i'll post a list of places we're gonna check out. i should have tons of pics after i get back too. i just wish i could take my G. i'm too paranoid about it getting f'd up on the drive or just parking it anywhere... hence the ride down in the civic

i've been to laguna a few times, it was actually where we took our first vacation a couple months into dating like 4 years ago. i love that place. know of any good bed and breakfasts there?

Awesome! That would be much appreciated. I say take the G, if you are going to make a trip down the coast, you need a cool car to do it in. Just be cautious as to where you park it. Dents can be removed, memories of being stuck in a Civic all the way down PCH can't . As far as bed & breakfasts, no sorry. Everytime I go down there I stay with family or at my parent's vacation home. I have heard that the Montage hotel is amazing, but thats as far as I know about lodging down there.
