IMO $1500 budget will get you the "cheap pos" coilovers you'" mentioned. I say get something that cost $2000+, especially with your hookup discounts.
Well my top recommendation is of course Zeal Function X(not the Xs; those are crappier). Stock spring rate is at 12kg/10kg so it should ne a lot more comfortable than my setup, and it'll handle like no other! If you want one of the best performing coilovers on the track look no further. Price has come down quite a bit so it's a lot more affordable now. While many sites still sell them for $3000+, you should have no problem picking them up for around $2700-$2800.
Another recommendation is Tanabe Sustec SEVEN with TEAS which David aka ipgthreefive has. These are top of the line Tanabe coilovers and kicks the crap out of Tein Flex(which you shouldn't buy), which has same electronic damper adjustment system. Speaking of that, the TEAS system allows you to change damper settings on the fly at the convenience of inside the cockpit. Set it up to softest setting and it is as smooth riding as stock, stiffen it up and it just handles GREAT. $2500.
Last one I would recommend, and which you would probably buy, is KW Variant 3. I've had numerous 1st and 2nd hand experiences on these in different kinds of vehicles, and I can tell you these are the most comfortable, streetable coilovers out there. It's no surprise KW being German company which phasize more on comfort aka grand touring. Given that, the handling was a bit soft for my taste, but you can DEFINITELY track in these and make you smile. A lot of S2K guys run these coilovers. These are fairly cheap at $2000(or less) Great coilovers for the price if you ask me.
wassup guys.. ddannng... No love for any other Coils huh kev.?
anyways.. Zeal is prolly one of THE Top of the line Coils money can buy. other things you may want to consider would be upgrading your tires... but most important of all of these is "Driver Tuning" IMO~!
