check out the somewhat new hollywood and highland shopping mall. the kodak theatre is also located there where a crapload of awards shows and other things are filmed. i think the victoria's secret runway show is being filmed there this thursday. there are LOTS of shops and restaurants and a great view of the hollywood sign, plus at least 2 clubs in the mall and MANY all around it. if you're looking for a place to eat, drink, lounge and maybe dance when you're drunk enough, there's this place called the montmarte lounge/day after [yeah, two names, i dunno] that's across highland ave from the mall. it's pretty much invisible from hollywood blvd cuz the entrance is actually in the back, from the parking lot between hollywood blvd and the burger king on highland. i've partied there a few times and personally i love the huge lounge/smoking patio..best place to meet people. watch out for the bartenders though--pay cash cuz they've got a ridiculous minimum charge for credit cards.

walk around that area of hollywood blvd....grauman's chinese theater, el capitan, walk of fame, hollywood wax museum, frederick's of hollywood flagship store, ripley's believe it or not, pig n whistle, the pantages, and a million other crazy places are all within a few blocks. plus awesome street performers and celebrity impersonators [i once saw a tupac impersonator that looked SO MUCH LIKE HIM i got chills.]

besides hollywood, hang out in old town pasadena, like the guy above me suggested. very cool stores and VERY good restaurants. if you're up for spending some money try the melting pot. best fondue ever. make reservations though, they fill up quickly.

+1 parking isnt so bad as finding it you just got to dish out $10 or so at the lots unless u park at the hollywood/highland mall i believe its $6 there

If you are taking your Z, take the 101 North bound and get off on Kanan Road exit, head towards Malibu. this is Z trip, you will love it, lots of turns and vistas, and if you got a ZR even better.

Then when you are in Malibu go up/down the Pacific Coast Highway.

not even. great recommendation. even if you're not a museum nut there's no way you won't enjoy the architecture, gardens, and views.
