I'm thinking of dumping SBC Yahoo and switching to a standalone DSL service.

I'm doing this since I'm planing to switch to vonage for my phone.

Can anyone recommend a good, fast and reliable service below 50bucks?

I hate vonage!!!! I had it for a a few months and at first it seemed cool and fine but then I had sooo many problems with then and the costumer support isnt too good either. The phone would stop working and caused my interenet to go out and because i was soo busy i was unable to get it fixed so id be out of a phone for a week or more. all im saying is that becareful switching.

Geez! Thats bad news.

I'm looking for a cheap way to make overseas calls to asia without really paying long distance. VOIP i think is my only option.

$44.95 a month. So bit expensive compared to DSL, but it's worth it.
Used to have Verizon DSL..it was so slow compared to cable modem.
Download speed never falls under 300kbps. Most downloads from major websites average at 600+kbps.

I have verizon dsl and have been very pleased (rated at 3megs down/768 kbps up, and i've gotten pretty close to that when testing my line) for 29.99/month, however I'm always looking for more speed since i host alot of services off my computer and xbox. Verizon has fios (fiber optic) that can reach up to 30 megs down and 5 megs up, but pricey. Their more affordable plan at $44/month is 15megs down and 2 megs up however its very very limited in so. cali (i know parts of long beach and OC get it). Go here and check your availabiltiy map http://www.broadbandreports.com/gmaps/fios or just call up verizon. Other alternatives are cable which can reach speeds of 10 megs down for $60/month but i think the upload is crappy. It just all depends on what you want. Do you care about upload speeds? What type of broadband access do you use besides wanting to do Voice over IP? These types of questions will help in choosing whats right for you for the cost.
