you don't have to pay anything if you correct the (fix-it) ticket (unless you don't want to correct it and just pay the fine). if you get a fix-it for front plates, all you need to do is put them on (zip ties will work) and then take it to a CHP or PD get it stamped/signed off, then mail in the ticket (that was stamped/signed) with a $10 check. that's it.

i just took care of my front plate fix-it yesterday. i zip-tied the plate to the front, then put my Performance Nissan frame over the plate (so the zip ties weren't so obvious). all went well...the CHP came out, pulled on the plate a little and said "feels secure enough..." ....he stamped/signed...and i was good. and instead of mailing out the ticket with $10, i just went to the courts (where there was no wait) and paid the $10 bucks and showed them the citation (that was signed/stamped).....and it was instantly "paid/dismissed"

and no, it does not affect you driving record (insurance wise).

No plate here. I did the same with my Audi. Never a ticket until my wife drove the car to LAX. Stay away from LAX (SEIOUSLY!).
Fix-it ticket was $25. I paid it, such is the price to go plateless...totally worth it imho.
Just so I understand this: the fix-it price is $10 plus the nightmare and hassle of going to the DMV or station, the time it takes to secure a plate, the hope it'll pass when checked? No thanks. I'd gladly pay double per ticket before dealing with that mess.
Time=$.

If they feel like messing with you, they give you a ticket. It's really up to the cop..like if he's REALLY bored, or just HAS to give a ticket.

I've gotten one, cop wrote down the wrong VIN no. (no plates at the time) though didn't have to pay a dime. or put it on.

took me 5 mins to put on the bracket, about a minute to call my local police station to see if they'll sign off on this ticket [not all stations are authorized to check and sign off on ALL fix it tickets..for example if you got an exhaust ticket you'd have to go to a referee station to take a sound decibal reading], 5 minutes to drive over and about 3 minutes for the guy to ask me if it's on and sign it and stamp it.
20 cents and about a minute to make a front and back copy of the ticket for my records
41 cent stamp
check for $10

15 minutes, $10.61. i think that's cheap and easy enough, no?

I commute from OC to LA alot and I noticed OC don't pay much attention to front plates. However, in LA, I got pulled over from a cop pulling out of a driveway for a missing front plate but let me go with a warning. I then got a $25 ticket for the same thing at a meter.

I say just leave it on because it isn't worth it for something so insignificant.

I got a total of 13 of these tickets in my past, only cost me $10 to get each of them signed off.

Haven't gotten one yet on the 350Z tho

everyone is diff like you say. I got pulled over driving my daily driver crapper 95 escort. The cop pulled me over cause he said i had no front plate then two seconds later asked if i had been drinking. I know he just pulled me over for that but i said no and he gave me the front plate ticket anyways. Just to make a point i fixed it, and by that i zip tied it to the front and angled it almost flat but stated it was mounted on there and the poopoo signed it off. I hate how they go after the ricers and imports, but let the american muscle off every time.

Yeah, I put mine on because I don't want to give a cop an excuse to pull me over. Last thing I need is to get pulled over after having half a beer. Not worth the hassle.

Its been months with no front plate on and I have yet to get a ticket (knocks on wood). I keep my front plate in my car. When I park on the street or drive where I think there might be cops I put the plate on my dash. Don't know if they still can give me a ticket or not. Can they? If they did say something I'd tell them I'm waiting for a z bracket or something.

You'll get extra attention eventauilly, either from thE cops or thE general public and you might get cited. If your car is actually registered in another state yet you have residence here as well as a job, the Cali govt. will get you big time.

Look-up the DMV / Cali program called C.H.E.A.T.E.R.S.
