Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say he launches the car at 6k rpm on a daily basis.

I Can't Drive 55
by Sammy Hagar
album:
One foot on the brake and one on the gas, hey!
Well, there's too much traffic, I can't pass, no!
So I tried my best illegal move
A big black and white come and crushed my groove again!
CHORUS:
Go on & write me up for 125
Post my face, wanted dead or alive
Take my license n' all that jive
I can't drive É 55! Oh No! Uh!
So I signed my name on number 24, hey!
Yeah the judge said, "Boy, just one more
I'm gonna throw your *** in the city joint"
Looked me in the eye, said, "You get my point?"
I said "Yeah!, Oh yea!"

Riding the clutch can occur in situations other than launching the car. The clutch can be ridden and glazed in traffic. If you're trying to be extra smooth and let out the clutch to slowly while applying the gas, this would also be riding the clutch.
Another scenario that clutch wear can quickly is during acceleration high into the RPMs. Say you're in second gear and accelerate to 5-6K RPM. When you shift into third, you need to get off the clutch quickly so as to avoid wear on the clutch. If you let off the clutch slowly, it would be the same thing as launching the car from a high RPM and letting it slip.
