Getting rid of car
I'm thinking very seriously into buying a different car to work on in the next few months, maybe beginning of next year. Why you ask? I realized the hard way that trying to mod a car that isn't fi is a waste of money. Bolt ons work pretty well sometimes, but don't give you anywhere near as much power. that's why i want something that's fi from the get go. there's only two cars right now that spark my interest, actually really only one, the evo mr. I know they stopped making it, but i like the way it drives more than the sti. It just feels better to my needs. It doesn't have to be awd, if anything i'd prefer rwd fi, but the only thing like that out there is like an 03' cobra, and i need a canyon carver, so it just won't cut it. a 240 sx with an sr sounds good too, but where am i gonna get the loan for that. No one will finance one, they're too old! don't worry though, if i do get rid of the z, i'll part out the mods to anyone who's willing to pay the right price. So basically, the purpose of this thread is to simply ask..anything good coming out soon that's under 40k and looks fun to drive, keep in mind, prefer FI. Don't say the EVO X (mark up, and a new engine to boot...i smell recalls in the air.)

I did the same thing and got a personal loan for 5K and bought a 1991 Toyota MR2, turned it into a TRD widebody conversion show car and did the Gen III 3SGTE motor swap in it as well. That car is VERY mod friendly and will reward you greatly for mods to the car if it's already FI or swapped. Then you can still stick with a 2 seater like the 350z.
Plus, everyone and their mom has a damn 240, very played out! Try something different that makes you stand out! Although the 240 is still a nice choice for a car to mod as it is also very mod friendly when you have a turbo engine

depends on how much power you need........
to my understanding from my japanese tuner friends and some of the import guys over here usuallyl ideal target HP is between 350-450.. how much power do you actually need and also is the car mainly for a track car, daily driven fun car or if you want tons of useless horsepower dynoqueens can be born depending on how much money you want to spend....
Fi is fun and the whole 240 movement is great but good luck dodging cops and referee tickets or thieves since the 240's became the next hondas in terms of being stolen stripped etc
EvO MR is an awesome choice my close buddy Mike Shin of jtuned.com just picked up one and that thing is amazing....
i chose the Z in terms of handing, power and styling, still pull chicks, have enough power and handle like a champ all into one...
whatever you decide to do good luck with your decision and on your next project...
if you're selling your cusco sus down the line let me know
take it easy

I never really liked the supra that much. I did think about the mazdaspeed miata, but I'd really have to rebuild the 1.8 liter to get it at the right power i'd like. I really think the Z fi is really the only good car that makes sense. Cause i want like a car that kicks *** not only on the cnayons, but liuke a big track too, like big willow springs. basically to give you an idea..the porsche 911 turbo, is exactly what i'm looking for. give me a car that i can mod close to that power, good handling, and still a great daily, without having to drop more than 15k on the motor, and i'm all good. maybe the only thing i'll have to wait for is the 09' 400z. meh

The Miata is pretty stout since it is already turbo'd. The Porsche, you are going to drop a good amount of change to mod it (exhausts are about $3k, ECU flash about $2k I think) they are not cheap to mod. But if that doesn't stp you then the Porsche would be the best choice. 550 HP with I/E/H and a flash.

^Depending on the brand, the software costs $1200-1300 which is a relative bargain for the performance increase.
The performance of a 335i with just software/tuning should be on par with a vortech 350Z or a lightly tuned turbo.
