Default A question about going FI..

Technically, most of the people I got to talk to is a big fan of the greddy TT, however, for the duration I plan to own my car, the budget I have and the power I want, I believe my desire doesn't require a TT.

I'm thinking of going for an SC.
Now I just want this validated.

For $6-7k(with install), are there any SC's out there that can push 370-400whp without maxing out the system? ( I don't have to forge my internals)

Take into consideration that I'm
- going to be a responsible daily driver.
- no plans to boost higher or build more for high HP. So no plans of going TT.

I was thinking of going with the turbonetics ST but I'm a lil mixed from what I've read (even if most will say its a case of good tuning and install)

Any shop installers or turbo gurus who can chime on this? It also might help if the FI guys here in socal can throw some ballpark $$$ figures of after install expenses (maintenance, extra reinforcements, gauges etc. etc.)

not much i can help you with your question and not to hijack your thread but if you decide to go turbonetics let me know i have a kit for sale that has less than 500 miles...more like 200 miles on it. willing to work on the price for locals

BJ, hope this can help.

If your planning to built your motor someday, without a doubt go with 2 snails (Twin turbo). If you are not planning to go built your engine then you can either go with SC or single snail (TN) good and realiable between 320whp-400whp (depending on your tune and supporting mods). Now between SC and single turbo.....if your looking for better torque go with single turbo IMO.

BTW: Price? SC or TN your looking around $5,700-$7,000 including supporting MODS such as gauges, boost controller, turbo timer, BOV, bigger injectors etc. NOT including installation and a good tune with UTEC (+$3,000 more if you include installation and tune with utec)! Twins your looking around $6500-$8500 depending on your supporting MODS but not including installation or a good tune from a tuner (again about $3,000 more for turbo installation and tune with UTEC). G/L BJ

Since you are in SoCal you may want to take advantage of the TN kit (local manufacturer w/ a 1 yr. no fault warranty) plus the availability of well experienced TN installers (i.e. Danzio Engineering, GTM). Your budget of $7K maybe enough (new kit + install). You will need addt'l $$ for gauges though. Here's my thread on the TN kit. Have been problem free so far. I would not risk a self install as I've have seen many horror stories on them. Hope this helps:

You've decided to finally go F/I huh? I told you NA can't make much power
How bout APS TT? you can run 400whp safely with a good tune(GTM) on stock internals.
I plan on doing that hopefully in a near future...

When do you need to smog your car next? The Vortech sc (or Stillen stage 2 sc...but that won't give you the power you want) are the only FI kits that will pass smog. If you don't care about that....the doors are wide open.

As posted above you need to set your HP goals and then decide on SC or Turbo. I would take time on this as it is not cheap and you def don't want to get something and not be satisfied. I would read and search everything you can before you decide........Good luck with the FI plans bro.

Thanks guys! Very helpful thread!

gsazabi:

Haha! I know man, but this wont happen soon. It's just too much money and dedication to squeeze some good NA power. I've read a few threads but its better to see what lies ahead before the project before I break the bank. :P

Muzzy is pushing 400+ with his vortech self installed
here is my thread.... if you weit another week Im working with forged performance to do a article on the vortech setup and the vq35.

since this thred there has some changes but overall now I have 15k miles on the vortech, Daily driver, I redline it everyday, 0 problems, and pushing 410 rwhp on stock block. I seriously beleive I have the safest stock block setup for the 400rwhp goal, hence the article coming out in the next few weeks.

enjoy

I assume this is for CARB reasons? If a person were to install different parts, as with a tuner kit, this is technically not CARB legal. In this case, would you still recommend a Vortech setup?

$7K+ is a lot of money for not a lot of gains, IMO.

Better than spending $7k on NA mods and gaining less than 50whp

My vortech setup cost less the 6k installed/tuned. I did the install though so that saved nearly 1000-1500 right there. My build included:

vortech tuner kit
walbro fuel pump
aps 440cc injectors w/harness
tubroxs utec with map sensor
oil temp, boost, wideband gauge w/autometer tripple pillar
Tuned by Sharif

Made 338whp/285tq.

Not too bad a price for the power gained. I got sick of na mods that did nothing!

Do you have plans going for higher HP? How do you plan to do it? Is it just all tuning? Or do you need to upgrade something from your set up? thanks!
