Default Bring your own parts/ items; service department reviews anyone??

Hi everyone, quick question:

I'm due for an oil change and I am going to provide my own oil (Motul 5w30) has anyone had issues with Los Angeles area Nissan Dealers in regards to this?

Before anyone asks... I'm going to the dealer because of a service contract I received as part of my car's sale package... (I can use it at any Nissan Dealer... "free of charge" it's only free because I paid for it up front... LOL Yes, I know, I know... )

In other words, did they use the oil or other item, you asked for or provided them? I want to do this local (Downtown L.A., Gardena or even Torrance)... I know how shady come dealers can be, so I wanted to at least get an idea before I do it.

Thanks,

Q

Dealers will do it. They will just charge you labor but usually a higher amount...

Example...

Some dealers will charge you for the oil change parts say $25 and then $7.50 - $25 for labor depending on the dealer....

BUT, if you just do the labor and supply your own parts, they will charge anywhere from $15-$45 depending on the dealer...

Best thing to do is call and ask... Usually for basic services like oil changes the receptionist will even tell you

If the service is covered under your maintenance contract then there won't be any charge incurred at the dealer. Most dealerships should use your oil no problem. Whether they actually put your supplied oil in....that depends on where you go.

The only problem with that if you have a Maintenance contract, you already paid for your oil... So you will be paying Twice...

Tim, thanks for this info. This is the very thing I'm worried about. If I take my MOTUL Oil, will I get MOTUL OIL in my car? I need to take a trip to a dealer and service writer whom I trust will do me right.

Well it doesn't hurt this time as I got a really good deal on my MOTUL Oil...

I'm almost considering getting a refund on my service contract...

Thanks a lot guys, seriously...

you may very well be ok keeping the contract and using the OEM NISSAN Filter that the contract pays for as well as the labor...

What you might be charged in labor for the oil change on its own, plus anywhere from $5.25-$12 depending on where you purchase your oil filter...

The local NISSAN & INFINITI dealers that sponsor this forum usually offer good deals on the OEM filters and MOTUL product.

With the way our economy is going, as well as costs of oil etc... You might be better off keeping the contract and using it more down the road especially if oil goes up any more, you will not have to pay any extra out of pocket...
