Hey guys! So yeah, I got caught doing a 60 on a 40 last March. Now I got this letter.
1. If I have no plans defending this, can I just pay the bail and take traffic school online?
2. I've always thought you're required to pay bail no matter what then u get it back if you win your defense but the letter says, pay bail or traffic school?
3. If I do #1, does that take care of my insurance going up and having points?
And yeah, I need to slow down. :/
Suggestions welcome guys.

BJ, I believe if you take option 1 . Your ticket will still show on your record but your not going to have any points taken againist you, because you went to traffice school and NO your insurance will not go up.
If you pay the bail amout. That means you have intentions on fighting the ticket and traffic may no be a option by the Judge. So that's why you only pay the intial violation fine.

Just pay the 319.50 total which includes the cost of going to traffic school and your ticket will not be reported to your insurance.
If you have attended traffic school in the last 18 months, then you can't go now. FYI...speeding tickets over 20 MPH over posted or "safe" speed are not eligible for traffic school.

from what i understand...
the "traffic school fee" on you ticket includes the bail amount. so basically the fine plus a fee so that you can go to traffic school to keep points off your record. and then you have to pay the traffic school their fee as well.
also, you can pay the bail and go fight it. you have to pay the bail first and then they set up a court date. if you win, they send you a check back in the mail and it takes about 6 weeks to get it. if you choose to fight the ticket you lose the option to go to traffic school.

OK
1. If I pay the bail, can't I do my traffic school online?
2. If I fight the ticket, i lose the option of traffic school, so does it mean, if i LOSE in fighting, its just worse? points, insurance, record?

You usually can do traffic school online but sometimes you have to go sit and listen in person. I don't know why it varies for area to area.
If you fight the ticket, and I don't know why you would, even if you lose, you can ask the judge to attend traffic school, but they may NOT grant it. Then it would be reported to your insurance, plus there is courts fees to fight it. The judge is not going to look favorably on your 20 MPH over the limit.
Your DMV record will get hit with 1 point for speeding, though its not reported to your insurance, and if you get 3 points in like 1-2 years then the DMV can suspend your license. Going to traffic school only keeps it from getting reported to your insurance.

I got lucky by using ticketassassin.com with my last one on 2006. I wonder if its gonna work now.
i think it's the whole process, the fact that everything's done over snail mail [sending in forms, etc] that works in our favor. i had this ticket i'd gotten on feb 3, 2007. after pleading not guilty, asking for a trial-by-declaration, filling in all that, sending it back, getting the guilty verdict, asking for a trial de novo, the court date i finally got was on oct 22. over 8 months later. and the chp officer didn't show.... dismissed! for all i know the cop was dead or relocated by then [not that i'm saying he should be dead.. by all means, no.. but you know what i mean].
i think if they ever get everything fully automated/online, fighting tix and winning is going to get 10000x harder.

So you got a guilty verdict? Did they tell you their defense?

There's so many traffic schools out there, some online, some in person... how do we know which ones are 'approved' by court? here are some approved by court http://www.ctsi-courtnetwork.org/cla...nty/index.html but they look more like comedy clubs than driving schools...
