just moved here awhile a few weeks back and have been trying to buy a 350z for about a year now...well im finaly in a position to pull the trigger but now cali laws? any help is appreciated and yes ive been googling and forum searching but havent got all the answers

1. carb approved. i see that any part you put on a car here must be "carb" certified to be legal. if i put something not carb aproved on it when would this be a problem? at the smog station? at vehical registration time? or when being being pulled over by a cop for a fog light out?

2. registering a modified car here. i think the issue is that none of the parts would have the carb certification right? so if i was to show up with a turbo at the dmv, the inspector would just laugh and walk away right?

how does one own a dream 350z here? modifiy it after registration and rely on paying off smog stations? is it silly to think about putting a stock exausht and headers on for just the dmv and smog inspections? will the dmv protest if its obvious the car has stock exaust on only for the inspection? aka theres a intercooler just sitting there up front and boost gauges in the cab?

There's a million places out there that'll take between $100-150 to pass your car. Just ask the right people.

As long as you don't have an exhaust that's extremely loud and gets the police's attention (thus getting you fix-it tickets) then you're fine.

 

so theres no issues registering a FI'd car? that would be great news!

 

Yeah, just make sure nobody who works for the DMV knows it's FI'ed. Lol.

ok cool. so its just a matter of trying a few dmvs till they pass you and finding the "right" smog test station.

finding smog places is no problem, their are tons of "those" places but dmv is the pain in the ***. good luck

 

you will never be able to drive a modded car here. buy a carb approved FI kit and you'll want to upgrade to an illegal TP and so forth..
