Default Anyone else doing the Nike Human Race?

Anyone going? It's a 10k run in LA on 08/31/2008. It's only $35 to register and most of the proceeds are going towards various charities. Kanye West is gonna be performing at the finish line. You also get a free pass to the afterparty which Kanye is also performing at somewhere in LA. I figure $35 is not much when most of the proceeds go to charity, you get a free concert and a free shirt.

Anyone else going?

I do run, but with my recent training I've got to limit races to 5K's. Charity races with entertaiment are good ones to do tho.

What kind of training do you do?

Races with entertainment are great. Ben Harper is going to be playing at the Austin race. I wish he woulda played the LA race. Kanye aint too bad, though.

Nowadays my running is limited to running on the streets before work. Years ago I did speedwork with the local running club. That was fun. However, my knees aren't what they used to be. I think it was the basketball on a concrete floor years ago that did them in.

I feel you, brother. My knees are getting there, too. I mix in basketball, volleyball, and running about 5 days a week. I'm starting to feel all the abuse catch up to me.

Yeah, I try to stay busy. It gets hard to stay motivated sometimes, though.

There are many people who do run/walk combos at these things. Don't feel pressured to have to run the whole distance at these things.

I might just pay the $35 and watch the concert and get the free shirt, I'll drive the Z to the finish line

I agree there are many who walk or walk/run these, especially if they're chariable w/ entertainment. But I've always run my races. In fact I just got back from a run before beginning work.

I'm in. I'm also leading a run group at the Hermosa Beach Nike Club Run LA training runs for the Human Race at Sangria on Tuesdays. There are Nike Club Run LA training runs nearly every day of the week somewhere in the LA area. Runners choose a distance (3 or 5 miles) and a pace that fits their ability level.

Here's a link for more info:

P.S. I guess I'm a bit out of touch. When I heard that Kanye West was performing after the race, I though it was a female country artist...

That's funny. I'm not a big fan of his either. I just thought it's cool we get a free concert at the finish line.

Thanks for the link.
