Default Painting my rims

Really been thinking... would you guys take your rims to a shop to powder it black? or get a few friends and spend the weekend painting... including all that sanding, layers after layers of paint and drying... probably can't be too baked or drunk doing it either. It saves the 300$~ but materials + Beer might cost a little too.. and the chance of coming out pretty ugly..

This will be my first time spray painting rims. Not sure if I should just save up a bit and take it to the pros

Im saving up or finding some1 thats knows what there doing to do my P45s. like you said theres a chance of spending cash on materials + Beer and it ending up looking like ****. then you have to pay the pros anyway ya know. its all on you though bro those are just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't mind saving up a few hundred to get it done. I'm sure it looks better that way. But my goal here is trying how black looks with my car personally before I settle for Bronze rims.. and the Mod Bug is bitting hard.. I have to save for a 5.1 surround sound system for the new room, so I'm trying to save as much as possible.. 300$ would be one good speaker right there

I would have just gone straight for a DIY, but I always manage to screw car shitz up... like how I screwed up on putting the fairlady emblem on the Z... iono how I was so retarded but it was the worst screwup EVER...

bro, just powder coat it... I did the rattle can.. it came out nice, but they scratch so easily..

call this place.. really cheap when it came to powercoating.. like 50 a wheel..

Reliable Powder Coat (562) 803-0802

I want to go to them, but they are in downey, only open Mon-Fri til like 4pm

so I'd have to take a day off work to go get them done.. if you want to see how my wheels are from rattle canning.. just check my car pic on my profile.

+1 Powdercoating

Tried the rattle can approach, looks good until you have to mount/dismount tires, then you'll have paint chips along the lip.

^they can be if the shop is not used to dealing with rims. Forged wheels cannot be baked at a certain temp but they can still be done. Just have to bake a little longer. If the oven is too hot then the bonds in the aluminum weaken and they can crack.

I would paint them only if they were stock rims and you didn't care to much about them... You have alot of spokes though it might be a little harder than mine. I didn't even try to do a good job at all but I think it came out ok. I wanted to mess them up that way I could tell my wife we need new rims. As far as having the paint chip on them, I have had no problems yet and its been a few months. If it hapens it will give me a good reason to do it again but black next time.

Ever since I saw that thread about the powder coated rim breaking. I would never want to powder coat now...

Get it done professionally and you won't be sorry.

But don't get them powdercoated, get them painted/soft baked.

Check http://www.fastforwardwheels.com/

Eli does great work.
