Yo Chris, we are starting to fix our front yard.. instead of a fish pond, we are gonna just make a small waterfall with no fish... we got the giant rock already... the plan is for the pump to pump the water up into the rock (we'll drill the rock n fit a hose in it) and it flows down. There won't be any pond showing cause we have heavy leaf falls in the yard. Thinking of digging a hole, put a metal frame on top... lay a layer of rock river rocks.. the waterfall goes onto the rock, goes under the metal frame and into the hidden pond where it get pumped back out into the rock.
not gonna be too big... how does that idea sound? once we dig it, I'll figure out how many gallon it holds n ill ask u for the proper pump / place to buy cheapest at..
also... something like this with no fish, would the water turn green fast? anything to caution about?
this way, all the leaf n crap will get caught on the river rock, we'll just clean that weekly.. trying to find ways so the water doesn't stink too fast. if anything, we just need to remove the river rock, take the metal net off.. pump out the old water and put new one in every few month.

hey Chris, can u call me whenever u are free these couple of days... we are starting to build our front yard and thinking of digging that fish pond. I decided to go with just some regular gold fish since Koi ponds cost too much... So I really need some recommendations on a good pump and filter.
gold fish are good to start with and just slowly start adding Koi once the pond starts to get established... choose a spot that gets mostly/partial shade a good 80-90% of the day but also. get a book on how to do all this shyt also so you dont mess up....
i need to know exact dimensions and all before i can recommend pumps and filters and i need to know HOW you plan to plumb the whole thing as well as wether you want water falls etc

ya after talking with my dad for awhile.. we gave up on having fish.. just too much hassle and money for now.. he doesnt want it big either.. so it looks retarded with 1 fish..
im going to home depot to pick up some cheap labor this weekend... after they are done digging, ill give u specific dimension and gallon.. the pump is just enough for having a light water flow thru the rock into the pond n back... dont want no monster water fall

water wont be seen from the surface... what it looks like is u are walking down the front yard, see a giant rock with water flowing down (mini waterfall). it flows onto some riverrocks and dissapears.. no water will be exposed

we just want a outdoor water fall effect.. there will be plants and stuff around the rocks. so it looks like a garden with a small waterfall in the middle
I was reading websites on mosquito control.. their solution was mosquito dunk, fish, waterfall, or bats.. BATS!?! wtf... wouldn't we have bat problem then -_-;;; then probably get hawks to control bats... lol
