Default ***Need some help from either past or present Honda owners***

My DD a 1997 Honda Civic EX died the other day. The motor is toast and I need to get a new motor.

The shop its at want 3400 or install and the motor and I think thats crazy for a honda and for a car I brought for 5000. Now I heard alot about people swapping motors in garages and picking up used motors for nothing.

So any advice, or maybe shop that is good with this stuff, or a good forum for DIY would be great at this point.

Cant use the Z either thank you Cali smog laws grrrrr

Thanks for any help

Taylor

Just an FYI http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts...4506.m20.l1116 ***** You can prob find one in the 3 to 4 hundred range and a shop shouldn't charge you more that 1 to 1.5 K. Anyone with some mechanical knowledge can bust this out since honda engines are like legos.

^ i agree with zen... 3400 seems pretty high for a honda motor with swap. is it the civic motor b16 or are you looking to swap an integra b18 motor in there? either way, should cost that much.

Ya Im really debating how are this might be to just do it myself. Honda motors are dirt cheap and Ive done turbo install on my Z so I dont see it being much more technical . . .

Dude it's easy. $3400 is outrageous! I replaced a motor in my brothers Honda accord back when I was in high school with some hand tools and a Haynes manual with no prior mechanic experience.

Ya 3400 seems insane to me too.

Anybody got any good sites to go to for DIY or manuals to go find ??

Thanks

If you were local I would just go and help you with the swap. Really with no experience it still shouldn't take you more than 6 hours to do the swap. Just make sure you have all the tools ready.
