how do you like those wheels? I had a carbon wheelset but trying to stop on those things suck. The special brake pads on the carbon surface are pretty loud also.

i love my wheels, best bang for your buck carbon wheels with ceramic bearings. you certainly would have more braking power with an aluminum wheelset, but as far as it being loud, i started using swiss stop yellow king pads for carbon wheels, and it's just as quiet.

speaking of road bikes, i'm in the process of getting a Specialized tarmac pro, or a Trek Madone 5.2. any opinions?

fixed gear bikes are cool, those hipster fixie kids are not with their super tight jeans and gay v-neck shirts. i hope you're not one of them.

i had two of them one of which is pictured in my avatar but sold them as i honestly did not want to be associated with that whole crowd. They come into my shop and shoplift and are just downright annoying.

keep looking through craigslist but to find something under $100 is going to be hard. Even if you find something for $300 you usually still have to put in 100-150 to get it running in good condition. as far as frame size goes, look for something around a 56cm frame or "large" if the frame uses compact geometry
