Red face my power steering went out!

soo i was driving around tonight and all of the sudden my break light and battery light come on.. and i loose all control to the car. i was only going about 30 or 40 but it was impossible to steer... soo after disconnecting the battery and many other trys i noticed that the belts on the front end of the motor are are missing and were hanging on the floor torn to shreds... soo basically its really hard to drive and steering is a btchh.. my car is an 03 with about 38k miles... kinda sux but wtv im going to hopefully get it fixed tom..

should i take it to nissan or something like jiffylube? i remember them warning me about it once before..

You are making a bigger deal out of steering the car without power assist than it really is. You were still able to steer the car, albeit with a little more effort. Since you were warned about the belts being bad, I would think you would have changed them before they broke. You're whining like a little girl over this minor inconvenience.

might be your water pump going out. happened to my old car... all the lights went out basically it's not charging your battery so i'm assuming it's not supplying power to your power steering unit.

I doubt it is the water pump. The water pump is driven off the timing chain. Back in the day, both the water pump and the fan were driven by the fan belts (hence, the name). Since the fan is electric and the water pump is driven by the timing belt, it probably wouldn't hurt anything to drive to the closest repair shop to have the belts replaced. This is a fairly simply job you could probably do in your driveway and save a bunch of money.

its easy, loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and loosen the tensioner bolt on bottom.

that belt runs your alternator and ps pump, i doubt u'll be able to get far before the juice in the battery runs out.

If you still have not fixed the issue just bring it by the shop and we can get it taken care of for you.
