Santa Monica Hotels- Shangri La vs. Huntley Hotel

hey whats up guys. i'm making a trip to Santa Monica next week. i want to stay at a nice hotel so i was trying to decide between the Shangri La and the Huntley Hotel. has anyone stayed at either hotel? also, can you recommend some fun things to do in the area?

I'd stay at Shutters on the Beach if you're staying in Santa Monica. Its literally is right on the beach, is quiet, and isn't too 'sceney'. The Fairmont is another good choice. Stay away from the Viceroy.
Of the two hotels you listed, I'd go with the Shangri La since there are better ocean views. You're right on Ocean Avenue and its easy to get to the Promenade. The Huntley is on 2nd street, is a little quieter, has just as good access to the Promenade, but you'll have to be on the upper floors to get an ocean view. The huntley does have a nice, enclosed rooftop restaurant and bar though.

hollywood and highland, you can probably catch a jimmy kimmel show, 3rd st promenade, theres a park on the pier on oceanside, (the lobster on the same pier has really good food, pricey also but good).
i went to the griffith observatory to check it out..it was ok.
