12/6/03 Saturday Julian/Palomar Drive & Mine Tour!
All, I’m hosting another drive which will include a Mine Tour in Julian! Julian is experiencing a severe shortage of tourists since the fire, so I thought we could help their economy a little bit via spending some cash taking a mine tour and eating lunch in town. I guess the only good thing about the lack of tourists…is that finding a parking space should be much easier
The tour at the Eagle and High Peak Mine is really interesting as a Guide we will walk us deep into a real 1870 era Gold mine to explore the tunnels, authentic tools, machinery as well as entertain us with mining history and stories of past residents and gold diggers. There's also a rock and mineral display and a gold panning demonstration.
We will meet at 9AM Saturday 12/6/03 at the Gas Station on 76 near the Pala Casino at 11154 Highway 76 (East of the 15 about 5 miles) Then at 9:30AM sharp head toward Palomar Mountain. We will actually skip Palomar on the drive up and instead drive through our favorite Mesa Grande twisty portion, quick stop at Dudley’s Bakery in Santa Ysabel, and then on to Julian where we start our Mine Tour at 11AM. Tour finishes at noon, we will have lunch at a nearby Julian restaurant from 12:30-1:30PM, then drive back to Dudley’s Bakery for a quick stop before driving up to and down Palomar Mountain on our way back home. The drive should be over around 3pm.
I’ll cover the mine tour costs. Lunch in Julian we each pay for on our own.
Let me know if you are able to make it. I’ll need an approximate count to prep the mine tour operators. Should be a fun and learning experience and will help fund the fire recovery a little via promoting tourism. AND we get some excellent driving in!
Bring a light jacket, starts to get a little chilly in December. Also, if you lack a FRS radio handheld (aka Motorola Talkabout), stop by a Walmart and buy one for $8 (amazing you can buy them for that cheap).

I invited Jon and his WRX buddies that have driven with us several times. So a handful of WRX will be coming with us. Looks like we will have a reasonable size group, not to big, not to small. Looking forward to it
To Cyberz350: A-Ok to bring gf. No $ needed except to buy your lunch. The group hasn't grown nearly big enough where I'm worried about the Mine Tour costs (it's my way of donating to the area).
To SLVR Z: Yup, Jon aka AllWheelDrive. They are a good group to drive with.
To Z4KR: Haven't heard of any front license plate fix-it tixs on these roads, kinda doubt it unless for whatever reason The Man decided to pick on cars that day, probably a very rare event.
