They've been doing them for years but this thread is about a specific laser testing machine that no one can verify.

Wow, all this money wasting effort from the state. They can get millions more if they target big companies. IMHO a big waste of time and taxpayer money.

I recall from a few years ago that the state was using the emissions sampling units at freeway on ramps but the info was for survey purposes only at the time. These units may be what the article is referring to.

Ok, I cannot find anything specific for California's use of "friggin' lasers" for drive-by sampling of emisisons, but I did find an article describing the use of infrared sensors in Denver, Co:

http://www.ucar.edu/communications/s...emissions.html

Motorists exiting south on Speer passed a beam of infrared light at hubcap level that monitored tailpipe emissions for a half-second. Moments later, a large sign informed each driver about her or his vehicle's performance in qualitative terms ("good," "fair," or "poor"). The technique gives readings for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitric oxide as a ratio of their emission levels to that of carbon dioxide; this allows for accurate sampling despite varying environmental conditions.

Stedman's device is based on many of the same principles as the dynamometer used by Envirotest, the state's official emissions tester. However, Stedman samples emissions on the fly rather than capturing them in a box for analysis, as do the official tests. Stedman's invention can sample hundreds of cars in an hour, a much faster pace than the official tests allow.

Yep looks like you can get a ticket for having a front lip even if your not super lowered https://my350z.com/forum/southern-ca...ng-strict.html

California is getting crazy. I read a few posts up that there was one of these spotted in Whittier too? And Chomorro is right about the lip thing I got pulled over this morning for it because it was lower than my rim they said. But my headlights were a perfect 22" being legal.

I really just think it depends on where you live, although you are pretty slammed and you're not the first person I've known who got ticketed for being that low.

LOL, it's still pretty crappy that you got harassed for something so trivial as being too low when I see douchebags driving huge raised trucks that are a bigger safety issue.

haha seriously we can't even change lanes on freeway without scraping reflectors, but a Brodozer that can plow through your home with 7 tons of Dodge and take out your upstairs living room is perfectly fine. profiling i say!

Ya its real dumb but im just glad it wasnt for anything else lol. Being too low when i actually pass the headlight height is whatever its just that cwest lip. Just take it off. Still is messed up though cause those huge trucks they cant even see when they change lanes ive almost had one change lanes with me next to them. Alot more dangerous than our little mods that they worry about. But thats good ol cali for you.

Totally profiling, but you can thank the street racers for that.

I once saw someone getting a ticket for being raised too high but he could literally drive over our Z's. They normally get tickets for not having the correct mud flaps but not for being dangerously high

J's, How much are you lowered on your gr+? ima drop mine 2 inches on 245/45/18 but dunno if it'll pass the clearance.
This just came up in my head. I think the reason why the cops pull over HEAVILY modded cars is that if you ever get into a situation where you have to get the hell out of the cops sight, escaping from the cops lol, they won't be able to catch you cause you are sooo fast haha

LOL

Maybe in the 70's you could get away but it would be the worst idea ever nowadays since they will use the helicopter to hunt you down.
