Question Stock Wheels 2 Chrome?

I've seen several Z's out there that have chromed the stock 17" A/T rims. Last one I saw belonged to "Spacemanspiff" during the Palomar/Julian run- Just wondering if anyone here in SoCal has done that and if so, how much did it run you and any recommendations on where to get it done? (can't afford to shell out 1-2 grand 4 rims + $ 4 rubber right now, although I'd LOVE to get some 19's, etc) TIA

When I was shopping for my Z back in August 2003, Universal City Nissan and a few others had the chrome wheels on a lot of Z's on the lot. Both 17 and 18 inch wheels had the finished chrome. I've seen a couple at Universal City Nissan with anodized black emblems too.

Please, please, please don't chrome your wheels. Chromium (the stuff they dip it in) is a truly evil toxic waste.

Get a shop to sandblast/brushed aluminum... Much better, even lighter weight (0.00001 oz....)

Or if you want something saucy for the same price as chroming you can get your rims powdercoated any color you want (ie white on white, black on black, etc).

Thanks for the replies! dczoner- I'm not set on the chrome, but thanks for the heads up on the evils, I had no idea how bad it was! Powdercoating, hmmmmm, sounds interesting- You said for about the same price as chrome...any ideas what it would run for all 4 rims out the door? I've seen some previous threads, but no one said HOW MUCH? Thanks!

Doesn't it cost $50 per wheel to chrome?? I'm not sure exactly b/c I have never done it before. Call Truwheel. They do good job on wheels. (818)765-5577 I'm with DC on this... I would probably go with powdercoating them gun metal over chroming them! But that's just my personal preference.

I know what powder coating is, but how's it's durability on the wheels? I'd hate to spend even a dime on it if :
1. It Ruins the original finish during the process and then starts to peel/flake making the wheel look like crappola 6 months from now
2. Makes me go spend 2 grand on new rims 6 months from now if number one above starts to happen.
Anyone else around done this to their wheels? Would LOVE to see some pics of rims that have already been done-
TIA for the inputs

Todd.... you might want to ask Jason@performance who just recently powdercoated his NISMO wheels black. You can check out his thread here.
