If you know anything about rotaries, I would look over that car with a fine tooth comb. Plus if the engine has been overhauled, make sure he has all the proper documentation. If you do not know anything about rotaries, I would have a mazda master tech look over the car before you trade.
Also is this car going to be a DD? IMO I would never DD an FD and keep it a weekend car. Curious, what does this FD look like, any pics?
EDit: Is this one it? http://www.zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/43...ntage-red.html
From the outside the car looks ok, tastefully modded. But I would want to know who did the rebuild (engine/turbos)or what shop did the rebuild.

Rx7's are great cars. Just as long as you maintain them right. I always called them maintenance queens, haha. You may daily drive an rx7, but you just gotta make sure that the fluids are always up to par, specially the oil. Rx7's eat up a good amount of oil. This is due to the oil metering pump. Which lubes up the apex seals. If you do check it out, ask
If you can do a compression test. See if the air pump is still connected to the cat. Check if it still works, because a failed air pump can lead to clogged catalytic. Which is a no no for the rx7's.
But in general rx7's are nice cars. I've owned the FC and I've always wanted an FD. But I also agree with bornslippyz, if you can use the car for weekends only then that might be better. My cousin rarely uses his 93 FD. But If the rx7 will be your daily then by all means go for it. Just maintain the car right and it will be fine.
Happy hunting.....

Personally I would just save up to get one cheaper and rebuild the motor and car to your specs this way you know exactly what was done. You can have a great buy on your hands or a mechanical nightmare. Flip the coin.

ignorant..... i'm sure there are a lot of VQs that burn more oil than my rotary does.
anyway. rotaries aren't as bad as people think. They require the same amount of care that any other sports car does. let's not forget that these are almost 20 years old. The thing with rotaries is that they run hot. Tackle those issues and you're fine. radiator, IC, downpipe, the basics of any turbo car. The nice thing about these is they hold their value. Many do daily them but I only drive mine on the weekends really.
You'll want to get any service records if they have any and recent compression numbers. The one in the link looks to be well maintained but again, just get it looked at by shop like Lucky7 or Jeff from Rotary Power. Come down two our bi weekly rotary meet that Waizzz and rubicant frequent and we can talk. if I'd had known you were in the market, we could've talked at Five guys last saturday.
Join rx7club.com, there is a wealth of info to be had there. Feel free to ask any other questions you have.
My rx7 runs great with no problems (Waizzz and Rubicant and some other dude from the cerritos meet can confirm it as they've gotten rides in it.). but I am going with a V8 swap and my motor comes out this weekend. I came from muscle cars and it's a swap that i've been wanting to do for some time.
But if you do get an RX7, I'm sure that you will love it. I don't believe the one in the link is an R1 model but it is a base model so it's a great platform to start on. Many people don't like the sunroof on the Touring models or the Bose system.
again, feel free to pick my brain on any other questions you might have.![thumbup](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif)

Thank you for the input guys. I have had several friends with 7's, and very familiar with the chassis, and the troubles. I am a member on the RX7 forums, and have researched other information sources.
......however, I'm really on the fence, but I think after long thought, that I'll have to pass on this one now.
I have a reliable car, I'm 1500 miles from home base, and to have a temperamental car can just lead to problems down the road that I'm not yet equipped to deal with.
I do want one so bad though....so sooo bad.
