With the exception of the TT and S/C guys, Why dont you just revert to stock? Putting on the stock air box(es) and exhaust shouldnt take more than 4 hours even for an unskilled mechanic.

You'll pass with stock cats and aftermarket exhaust.

Exclamation

As of January 1st the state started a new program called STAR
This replaced GoldShield and also replaced Test Only.

The test is the same as it was last year, nothing changed except for
Now they are watching the smog inspectors much more carefully they give us a score and report card etc. So whoever tells you that the star test is something completely different well their full of crap.

Also new testing that will "remove" the sniffer test will start early 2014.
This testing will be OBD2 only, vehicles 2001 and newer i believe not 100% sure could be 2000 and up, those vehicles will require NO tailpipe sniffer. Just a visual and OBDII check.

If you guys have any questions just hit me up.
Im a smog tech.

Even if i have Megan headers and y pipe installed on it?
I just went to the nearest smog check station this morning in LA, but no matter how hard I tried to twist his arm, the inspector told me my 350Z will fail the visual test, unless i have the approval label on my exhaust. In worst case replacing the stock pipe and getting it checked costs around $400, which is too much for a student like me

Find a different shop. Keep trying until you find one that's not going to dick you around. I passed visual with high-flow cats.

I just got my smog done last weekend. I had to go to a STAR smog shop. I put stock cats on and left my exhaust on and passed with flying colors. Still same process as usual except this is my first time having to go to a STAR shop.

Got mine done last month, literally took 5 minutes. Smog guy only cared if I had cats and oem intake, plugged in obd2 reader for a few minutes and that was it. Much easier and faster now.
