Default New CA smog laws for 2013...how was it?

Well, new laws for smogging in 2013 in car commie cali...no more roller/tailpipe test, its all about visual and ODB testing....

Trying to canvas what the smog experience has been like for those smogging under the new laws (exactly what are the new testing procedures, etc)...please post them in this thread

I inquired about this last month while my car was being smogged, they said the sniffer wasn't going away anytime soon

What I've heard is cars that are year 2000 and newer will get the new test older cars will still be put on the rollers. Test only stations will go away for newly named stricter test facility's. cars that have a history for failing will be sent to these places. I also heard from a friend of mine that is a smog tech that California rushed to put these new laws into effect and most smog shops are not ready both equipment and personnel wise so things will probably still be done the old way for a few months at different places.

Hopefully, this drops the costs of smogging for the individual stations since there's virtually no work for them to do besides plugging in a laptop.

It seems like this whole thing was just kind of rushed through, so I wouldn't expect the majority of smog-only places to be compliant with the procedures for awhile.

Default Smog test So Ca

Just got my 07 350z smogged this past Saturday. This was my second time around because my Injen intake didn't have a CARB EO # my first visit. The roller and tailpipe was still being used. Measurements were taken at 15 mph@1605 rpms and 25 mph@1924 rpms. The tech definitely took his time doing the visual part. He looked under my Z at least 2-3 times with a flashlight. I just have a Nismo catback.

Well I hope this info helps.

Bryan

I thought the new laws aren't in affect for 98+ until March?

so, Ive been to 8 smog shops trying to get my tt smoged. took off all pipes trying to hide tt, removed ic, put on stock exhaust. No way, it passed at the tail pipe but its all about stock and visual. New laws brought hefty fines and even jail for abusers, both tech and car owner i was told. So if you want to pass put back to stock first.

All the shops in SD that I've seen, are still sniffer/roller test. Just got failed on visual for no CARB sticker on the intakes. It was really frustrating since I brought the EO and the installation manual from AEM with color photos. The guy told me, "I don't have time to look at this, go home." Needless to say, I'm not going back to that place. At this point, I'm not even going to mess around, so I just bought a set of stock intakes for cheap and I'm going to throw those on for the test.

as of jan. 2013 certain vehicles will be directed to STAR certified test stations. Star stations are generally "stricter"

I have an 06 350Z that I had a HKS GT supercharger installed in and getting my car smog tested has been hell lately! No joke I haven't been able to register my car because of it. Luckily I needed to register it in December so I don't see anything about needing a star rating, but even then every place I go to has been giving me a hard time because of the fact that I modified my car.

Right now I am honestly just getting desperate for some recommendations or some assistance, if anyone could help me out it would be most appreciated.

How does this new smog work? Cuz I need to know when it comes time to smog my car if I can just show up with $200 like usual and get it passed or if ima have to revert everything to stock (which i'm not really willing to do)
Can I just hide my parts? I'm confused about the whole thing
If you don't mind going through A-Z on what you have to do now with these new laws? I'd greatly appreciate it

Smogged mine last month and had to do the sniffer/roller test as well. I passed but was told that new laws/regulations have gotten more strict than before.

I's the same B.S.

Also, new "procedures" won't be enforced completely until probably the end of this year or so///

I spoke to a smog shop owner when we went to get a buddy's Z smogged. He said that the roller/sniffer test will stay in place until the end of the year, in conjunction with the new testing.
