Default San Diego Engine Shops?

Quick view: Have a literally "ticking" sound from the engine head. Nissan quoted ~$4700 to rebuild head and oem parts all around with a week turn around. I know better than to accept without researching. I considered the guys in Texas that rebuild heads, short blocks, long blocks, etc. However I still need a San Diego shop to pull the motor and ship for me. Then of course re-install. I've "google'd" shops however not too many put up reviews for engine and machine shops. I'm not going somewhere just because they have 5 good reviews and 2 bad. I'm trying to get my options together. I'm not selling a busted-to-be Z to someone. Nissan still gonna tack on the bill if I trade it in so...no-go.

Has anyone experienced good service or know of any good reputable engine shops?

Also same question with machine shops?

Thanks in advance...only if you put 2 cents down tho

Not in San Diego but I would try calling either Fontana Nissan or Corner 3 Garage. Both shops are about 2hrs away but they are both known for their great service.

Also if you are doing head work why not look into upgrading and not just replacing while you are at it. import parts pro, soho motorsports, Z1 all offer head kits in different stages.

Something like this might help.

Exclamation

WTF! Somebody quoted $900 just to remove the engine and $900 to reinstall it after it's been repaired. I say with that price. Did I get over priced or is that "normal" for Cali?

I don't think you will need to remove the whole engine to have the heads worked on/replaced. You should be able to pull them while the engine is still in the car.
