Here's my experience with the "AAA Plus membership" which includes towing up to 100 miles from where your car is stuck.

On two occasions, I called for a tow, expecting to be towed beyond the normal 7 mile limit. Both times, the tow truck that responded, in less than 30 minutes, refused to take my car. Both times the drive said their tow company contact with AAA requires them to reach the customer within 30 minutes. By taking my car "beyond the normal 7 mile limit", they would not be able to respond to other calls (due to staffing).

The driver called their dispatcher to send someone to tow me "beyond the normal 7 mile limit". In one case, I had to wait an additional 2 hours for the 2nd tow truck (after the first tow truck responded within about 20 minutes).

I still think it's worth having the "AAA Plus Membership", but no where does AAA give you the above information. Just be aware that the first tow truck the responds, may, or may not, tow you beyond the normal 7 mile limit.
