Default California Speedway - Saturday 5/29/04

Here's one way to kick off the summer. California Speedway Street Legal Drags (California Dragway) in Fontana next Saturday 5/29/04. Lineup starts at noon (I'll get there a little bit earlier), inspection at 2:00, racing start at 4:00. We'll see if my new BFG Comp T/A Drag Radials can help me break the 14 sec. barrier.

http://dbserver.iscmotorsports.com/C...dway/about.cfm

If anyone's interested or wants to come and/or caravan, pls. post here. G35's are of course welcome to join as are older gen Z's. (As far as I'm concerned, anyone can come along and caravan: Soobs, Audis, EVOs and others. The more the better)

Hey I was just there last week for the Porsche Owners Club race. They let everyone who paid on the oval track from 12pm to 2pm. Unfortunately for me I got there around 4 just when the last race was coming to an end. I'll check and see If I can go I live in Riverside so I'm about 25 mins away from the speedway.

Default Change of plans

Ooooooooo... Drag Races!!

I was planning to go to the "Artistry in Ink" Tattoo convention on Saturday, but perhaps I'll go to the races instead. I'm interested to see how I would do. I've never drag raced before (I know... it's sad). Hehehehe

I'm in!!!

Do any of you attending care to meet at the shop?

A couple friends from other forums will be meeting at the shop first at about 12pm and will caravan to the Speedway.

Again, this is only if you're interested. Being that not too many people have responded to this thread, maybe you guys want to hang out with some other people too?

Regardless, I'll be there.

If anyone is interested in meeting before going to the track, feel free to PM me or email me: tony@4myride.com

Sounds like you're just down the street from the tracks.

Doesn't "line ups" start at 12:00? Or are you not planning on racing?

Yeah, it starts at 12pm. However, they don't actually start anything 'till 2pm, and racing doesn't take place until 4pm. I just don't like being out in the sun for 4 hours doing nothing if I don't have to.

We usually don't have any trouble getting in at about 1 or 2pm.

Not to mention, it's not that crowded as it normally is when the speedway first opens.... and the fact that most "kids" will be south of the border this particular weekend kinda tells us that there's no need to rush early.

The tech inspeciton takes the most time. That's where you sit in the sun and inch along with a couple of hundred cars in front of you. Once you're done wiht that, you can go inside, find a nice spot and park it and start prepping. So I was going to try to get there around noon. If you guys want I might be able to cone off a space or two next to me.

Chris, what are your plans?

Well, I'm thinking about going, but I don't want to get there "late" so to speak. If line up is at 12:00, I'd like to get there around 11:30 or so. We can meet up there if you'd like?

Since this will be my first time racing... what do I need to do/bring?

Chris,

Yeah, sure that's fine. I might get there a bit early too. BTW, befre the gates open at 12, they line up in that alley directly across the stree from the main gates.

I suggest you read the guidelines on their website. Basically, if you're stock and don't go under 14.0 sec, all you need is wear long pants, or at least wear'em while your racing. It does kinda get hot there, so I think I'll bring a set of long pants and just put them on when lining up. You need a helmet if you're under 14.0. (TT guys take note)

I also recommend taping up your car, particularly the inside of the fenders. I'll bring a roll of 2" blue masking tape for this.

You don't need to do any weight reduction (e.g. lose the spare, etc.) as you can do this once you get there. There's plenty of time.

Since it's your first time, they'll issue you a racing number and card. That only takes a couple of minutes, right after the tech inspeciton.

Bring $20 to get in.

Other thing is to bring food and drinks. There is a hot dog stand and soda, but I prefer to bring my own comsumables. Oh and if you like beach chair and umbrellas. Hope this helps.

Great. I'm glad I won't be the only Z out there. I wish some of TT's would show up too tho.

it's basically every other weekend...... hence the reason it doesn't get as crowded as it does when it first opens up

Default Calif. Speedway Road Course June 25

expensive but worth it. uses 2/3 of nascar oval, plus twisties in the infield. very fast track - not for newbies. sign up at www.speedventures.net and be prepared to pay $275 for the day.

Hehehe... so what if you don't plan to be under 14 secs, but you end up being under? Do they kick you out if your'e not wearing a helmet?
