I think a mid to late November canyon run before JGTCUSA might be cool. We can do our Latigo/Decker Canyon/Tuna Canyon run or maybe Angeles Crest. Or, if Audio Pat is around, a nice Simi run. I'd also be interested in a nice PCH drive up to central California or Santa Barbara.

I like the PCH drive...since arriving to Cali I have always wanted to do that. On a nice sunny fall day, view and drive should be awesome. Would be nice to find an open area where we could all just sit on blankets, and bring our own food. Just an idea.

 

Yah I'm in for a costal drive up to Santa Barbara. I would even go as far as go to Morro Bay to take the castle tour. I might pass up the run these last events of the runs left me wondering.....

 

pch is a fun ride but there are two many cops, like last time a z was ticketd and i dont think we should put ourselves in that position again.

Ive heard alot of good things about tuna cyn, i think we should try it out we've done the other roads already, just my opinion thou, but im ready for anything.

 

There is an awesome restaurant call the Brown Pelican that is right in front of the cleanest beach I've seen in So. Cal. and is located in Santa Barbara. As for tickets, Ventura county is notorious so we would be cruising at 70 mph or so, this would be a leisurely drive and not some gum ball rally banzi run.

Yah we can do a cruise but no race down PCH but my ticket was up on the hills and Jen's was on PCH. I think the end of the month was the reason why so many cops were lurking. Also I would like to see what the California coast looks like.....I know it's nothing like driving in New York traffic

 

I really hope my Z is fixed by then, cause u can count on me. If not could I catch a ride with someone? I will definitely keep u all posted on when my ride will be fixed but it looks like it could take a while. I pretty much have a whole right rear end to be replaced.

PCH sounds great

 

Are any of you guys off work for the Veteran's Day holiday on Nov. 11? I was planning on cruising up to Solvang for the day. I usually take the 101, get off and take Hwy 154 up, takes you through hills and past Lake Cachuma. Really nice drive...Just my thoughts, let me know if any of you are up for it.

Jane and I are in for the November run.

Santa Barbara is a great place to go. If we do do this, we can end up at the mission in Santa Barbara. Hugh lawn, great place to picnic. I did this run a few years ago when I was involved in an F-body group. Easy day run, and great scenics up the coast...

 

Im in for the drive up North. A bunch of us were talking about this a few weeks back. It would be cool if we could get something going with the Nor Cal'ers as well.

 

Tuna canyon is one way downhill. It's not well mantained and dangerous. It's the only canyon I've seen that has a 6 inch curb and just over that a sheer drop a few hunred feet, on a one lane road. I've driven every road in the santa monica ranges(probably a few hundred times). There are a lot of awsome roads up there, but that one is not one of them.

Bob has a point, night time is optimum. Less traffic, headlights warning you of cars ahead, and no jacka$$es in your way.

 

I would be interested as this would be my first time. Definitely want to get a chance to check out some of the nice rides everyone has. Just got mine and really no mods yet: except for the Z-Xtreme grounding kits so I would like to get some ideas from everyone.

When I first got the Z and with less than 500 miles on her, I decided to do a drive to Santa Barbara. I hit my navigation up for a restaurant and it came up with this spot that is off a small road. I would never have found it but for the navigation system. Anyways, the place is really very nice. Let's get there for brunch and depending upon how things go, seeing as it is a really nice beach, we can move on to the mission for more picnicing for lunch and for those who want to bring a basket instead of ordering. Actually, a basket would work fine at the beach as well.

Shmately, you're right about Tuna canyon. There is some nasty single lane or lane and a half action in parts of that road. And, it's not the best road.

From memory, breakfast can be had for about $10.00 but you can go upscale if you want a really nice lunch, wine etc.

 

Damn, that place is gorgeous at night. We're in, but what are the tentative dates, or has that even been considered yet? Are you guys doing this U.S. Thanksgiving day weekend??? Cause that's 4 straight days off; 25-28. I am down with that gorgeous eatery, and vista!

Well the only weekend for me in Nov would be the 13 and 14 thats if my car is done by then. All other weekends in Nov is either booked or on vacation. They had told me that my car might be done by Nov 12, but thats just an estimated time for completion. Man it sucks not having my car!!!!

For those interested there is a Speedventures track day at Streets of Willow springs on Nov. 12, this could make for a good drive up the day before...

Also Nov. 22 there is a track day at Buttonwillow which will also make for a good drive/cruise on HWY 58 between the 5 and 101 Fwy's (the best canyon road ever!!!)

I added myself as #17. Those dates are open for me at this time. But we often get our calendar filled in 2-4 weeks in advance, so, hopefully we can nail down a date soon.

I like the idea of a "leisurely" ride up the coast.

I also added Tom Jones comment that he is open for any dates.

I got my first speeding ticket in over 12 years around April, 2004, on PCH, going north to Santa Barbara. I was in Mailibu going 72 miles an hour. The CHP said "I was pacing you for over 2 miles". I paid the fines, and took Traffic Court. But no more tickets for me.

After I got the ticket, I bought a Pasport 8500 X50. It saved me on the way back from Malibu after lunch at the last canyon run. I was only going about 65 MPH. As soon as the alarm went off, I tapped my brakes to get to the 55 MPH speed limit and it was almost 15-30 seconds later before I spotted the CHP car over on the right. I think that's the same one that nailed Jen, probably a short time after I passed him.

Just an FYI, I'm going to a "Tactical Pistol Night Shoot" on Sunday, 11-07-2004 at Prado Regional Park. This is a training class. I had to buy a "tactical flashlight" for the class (boy, some flashlights cost a lot of money). If anyone is interested in more info, PM me.

The Drive
We can meet at our usual spot. Starbucks on Ventura and Topanga in Woodland Hills. I'm thinking a little earlier than usual is a good idea. Say 8:30 a.m. with a 9:00 a.m. departure. Or, if people prefer, we can keep it set for our usual 9:00 a.m. meet with a 9:30 departure. Let's let that be decided by the people who are further away.

From there we take Topanga south and go straight or we can go right onto Mulholand, turn left on old Topanga which will return to Topanga and then make a right on PCH. That gives us a short but nice little bit of a canyon ride.

From recollection, we can drive up PCH for quite a bit and I suggest we stay about 45-50 mph. It's a 45 mph stretch of highway and they ticket beyond 55 mph. The rest of the way is 101 and Ventura county is notorious with their sheriffs so I don't think anything more than 70-75 mph is advisable.

I'll be taking point on this run and will be driving a nice easy pace because there really doesn't need to be any tickets on a cruise like this one. Anyone who wants to pass me can of course.

Mossy Meet
I intentionally left out the 13th because we don't want to have a conflict with this event. I might go as well and I'm sure others here are going so let's just skip that date.

Ok everybody.....the most common dates that Im seeing are the 14th and the 21st. I personally am for the 21st as it gives us plenty of notice and it gives time for Jons car to be fixed. I will personally organize and plan a full day of canyon cruisin and fun for us all if everybody were to join the bandwagon for the 21st.

 

I vote for the 21st. Going to be down in San Diego for the Mossy show on the weekend of the 13th...

 

The 21st is looking like the most popular date and the fact we might have Iris and Mike there after so long sounds great. We're missing Jon, 03Z33, G35to350Z. And, Jon is only able to make it on the Friday the 12th which looks okay for only one other person. Say man, did you mean 21 and not 12?

Let's set this for Sunday, November 21, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. with 9:30 a.m. sharp departure. I think 8:30 a.m. might be a little too early. After Rusty Pelican, we can head over to the Mission as suggested by Jeff. It's only a few miles away.

I have a drift competition on the 21'st at Irwindale Speedway, so won't be able to make it... Next time!

Dang it. I didn't know about the Drift Show Off. The next most popular date is Nov 13, 2004. But, how many people can't make it then due to Mossy? It's never good when we can't get people together. I'm thinking the Mossy show will be more of a problem than the Drift show.

The 14th is a possibility too but Jen, Jeffa and ZtoZ don't look good on that day. If the 13th or 14th turns out to be less of a conflict for some people, we can reschedule. But, for now, let's leave the date.
