Default Front Plate?

How many of you guys don't have a front plate in Texas?

The car dealer told me he could put one on for me but that most cops don't care and if they do write you a ticket you just have to put a plate on an the ticket goes away.

I figured he wasn't just trying to be lazy b/c he gave me the other plate and I keep it in my glove box.

So is this pretty much true or should I make a point of putting one on asap?

I just heard in Arlington the ******* cops are walking the mall parking lots leaving tickets on windshields for no front plate.

Merry Christmas.

But that is something I would expect from that city.

I got pulled over in Richardson and got a ticket for speeding. The cop didn't mention my front plate, even though he walked up to front of my car. I've had the car since April '03, and have yet to be harrassed for no front plate.

No hassles here yet, but I know some of the local jurisdictions are much more **** about this than others. I didn't run a front on my last car either. IMHO the front plate just kills the look...........

I asked a cop why they don't really enforce front plate laws, and his response was this:

Usually only sports cars do not have the front plate. Usually only sports cars are clocked going over 100mph. The way texas law is structured, you can't arrest a driver for going over 100 unless there is at least one other violation. So, they rarely enforce the front plate law because it is a convenient 2nd violation. He stated that cops who write tickets for front plates are typically new to the force so they haven't learned all their tricks yet.

I've never had a front plate on any sports car I've ever owned and never had a problem with it.

The Z has no front plate, blue parking lights, lower than 35% tint, and no cats. I got my first ticket in 4 years back in October and the cop didn't say a word about the rich gas odor or any of the visual stuff. My guess is as long as you're not a jerk, they won't bother nitpicking.

hahahah I got pulled over last night for no front plate...I think the State Trooper saw me leave the bar I was at and just used it as a reason. No ticket, and no field sobriety test.

Maybe cause I wasnt drunk?

that isnt entirely correct. speeding is the only thing they cant take you to jail for, but if you are going 25+ over, then they can write you for reckless driving, which you can go to jail for.

ie- you dont have to go 100+, you can be in a 30, go 55, and go to jail for reckelss.

I got pulled over for racing in TX and the cop happily gave me 6 tickets. 1.5yrs of court dates and fighting the charges.
One of the tickets was no front plate.
Now I found a service that will take car of all that..

Damn, you guys are all LUCKY. In the 8 yrs that I've been driving. I've been pulled over soo many times I've lost count. MAINLY due to the reason I had no front plates. It wasnt even about what I was driving because I've been pulled over in stock vehicles, modified vehicles, trucks, SUV's. Unbelievable, at one point in my life I was considering taking action against the cities of Allen and Plano for discrimination. Anyways, more power to you guys.

When I took my driving test in my old SVT which also didn't have a front license plate I was allowed to take the test (actually it had a Union Jack flag in its place) but the DPS officer told me that if I failed I would have to use another car to retake the test in.

We got to talking later about this and he said that most cops won't pull you over specifically for having no plate, rather they'll use it as the reason to pull you over and see if anything else is up (DWI etc).

Now the emphasis is on "most" cops. Of course some cops are just ********, some are having a bad day, and some just don't like the look of you and just want to **** with you.

Personally I've probably been pulled over 10 times since I've been in the USA. Every time it was for speeding, except for once when my inspection was expired. In that time I only ever got 4 tickets for the speeding and one for the inspection and not one time did I even hear a word about not having a front license plate.

Having said that I have a female friend who drives a G35 Coupe who got a no front license plate ticket the time before last that she got pulled over for speeding, and she has a much nicer *** than me, so who knows?
