Bummer, don't get to see the funny look on the cop face. Can you tell me where you found this info. Thanks in advance.

Beg to differ, but it only has to be displayed in front and back (it does not say "frontmost part"). The precise wording is "displayed at the front and rear." Commonly interpreted to be visible (readable) when the car is viewed from either the front or the rear. Yep, I'm a paralegal too...

To cite the clear and definitive law on the matter... (print this out and give it to any LEO that questions otherwise)

§ 502.404. Operation of Vehicle Without License Plate or Registration Insignia

(a) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have been:

(1) assigned by the department for the period; or

(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.

(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license plates for the registration period, that does not properly display the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the license plates have been validated for the period.

(c) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license plate, attached to the rear of the vehicle, that has been:

(1) assigned by the department for the period; or

(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.

(d) Subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to a dealer operating a vehicle as provided by law.

(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

Thanks man, I guess the police officers I talked to just wanted to have the front plates on the front bumper for ease of reading the plate???? Oh well, I don't have one, it's in my back seat storage thing............

Thanks for clearing it up for us though.

No problem... We aim to please...

I do recommend that you keep that front plate more accessible so at the very least you can toss it up on the front dash if you see the red and blue lights in your rearview -- it just saves a little of the hassle (if they question, you just haven't had a chance to mount it yet).

BTW, I live on the female side of the fence... We like to drive fast cars too -- in my younger days, I did some NHRA sanctioned events in my '65 GTO (wish I still had that car) and also did some go fast with my '73 and '78 Vettes, and '80 TransAm... Seriously looking at the Power Enterprises TT for the 350... Woo hoo...
