Default Moving to Austin

Hey I was wondering if anyone can recommend some good places to rent (apartments) in Austin. It doesn't really matter where in Austin but if you know a place that is under about $1000 a month then please post so I can check it out. I'm moving there mid to late July. I also have two dogs so they need to be ok with dogs as well. Thanks.

i live in some nice apartments but with your dogs you gotta pay like 400 deposit and 20 a month. it sucks but consider all the crap this apartment offers i guess its worth it. or get an apartment locater. they are good and free..lol and some pay your deposit.. got pics of the car?

Do you know what part of Austin you will be workin in? that will make a big difference. Traffic here is pretty bad. I live off of 620 and love my apt nice view, nice area. reasonable rent. not sure how much it is if you are new. i pay 775, but it is a 2bed 2 bath near 1200 sqft, attached garage. i know they normally go for over 900 i think around 950-1000 honestly, but have no complaints here, been here for about 1.5 years. i just like how it seems like you aren't surrounded by wal-mart and shopping centers, even though those are real close and they r building a new wal-mart about 2 miles away. the other one is like 8 miles lol. they seem to be on every corner now days. what kind of dogs? some dogs aren't allowed at apts. i know pits, rots and other dogs like that aren't allowed at any apts in austin.

you might want to check out craigslist for duplexes. might have a backyard and get lucky with a garage.

oh yeah, well I got a super duper high tech business center with fax machine where I live AND a garbage disposal. beat that!! LOL.

widebody350, I see that you are in Virginia. I am going to a wedding in a couple of months in the DC area and I was wondering if you know how long the drive takes. Also as far as apartments go I would recommend a locator like solidsnake said, also look in www.austin.craigslist.org

Personally I'm not fond of the Enclave and most of the Round Rock Apartments (no offense Gatti-Man, but we talked about this before), so I would recommend the complex that I'm in. I think we have the most swimming pools of all of the complexes in the area, and you can get a 1 bedroom with garage for under $1K (I think)

You can find it online at www.riata.com

PM me if you have q's.

I guess if you're into apts. then go ahead....The last place we lived before we bought our house was a lease house. Nice place and a great neighborhood 1950 sq.ft. and $850.00 a month in Cedar Park. Apts SUCK! I dont care if you're at the "mansions" apts just plain suck to me....what can you do with a two car garage?

google "lease houses cedar park texas" and see what pops up. oh and keep in mind you want to stay WEST and NORTH of Austin unless you like being in the ghetto.

Well i made a similar drive but i left from Dallas and i drove to Norfolk, Va. i drove the Z and my average speed was 90 i know but it took me 22 hours. im estimating it will take you about 28-30 hours maximum from Austin to DC Long drive but then again i made that 22 hour drive without a break, just stopped for gas Good luck

Widebody350, when you get to Texas, you are gonna realize that whatever miserable $1000 a month apartment gets you in VA is a completely different story in Texas. In fact, i think you are better off buying a home but dont even get me started on that subject....lol. Enjoy your stay in Austin

Austin apartment living can be expensive, depending upon where in Austin you want to live.

Anything in the Westlake School District will be really expensive, the same goes for a couple of other pricey districts. 2 Bedroom 2 bath in Westlake area was 1200 for me 3 years ago.

Now I live in Circle C, in a 2450 sq foot house with a nice backyard and 2 car garage and our mortage payment is only 990.00. (No that doesn't count my yearly taxes, but still.)

I highly recommend staying west of I35, regardless of where (North/south-wise) you choose to live. I would look for homes for rent (or sale if you don't mind buying). The other poster above is right as well, more than a few dog breeds are not allowed at all, and I was unable to locate one that would take dogs that weight more than 100 pounds. (My mastiff/lab mix is over 100 now).

Thanks everyone. I'm really suprised at how many people on here are from Austin. I was expecting maybe 5 responses tops. Basically I am going to go to community college/work then transfer to UT after a year. I didn't know that you have apartments with garages at such an affordable rate down there. I live in Northern Virginia which is more expensive. As far as your drive it will probably be between 25-30 if you speed. Watch your speed (8-90) you get on the east side of Georgia on up into Va. I drove all the way from El Paso to Va. and it took me about two days. I loved it b/c I topped the car out for about 10 miles going from El Paso to Dallas. As for pics of my car you can read the Targa Top thread and that will explain why I can't show you any pics. The car will be done by the time I get to Austin so if you all are interested I would definately like to start up a club down there.

Mastergrade with custom made 844R Series HREs. rear lip is supposed to be like 6 1/2" and the front like 4". The Targa Top is probably a no go though due to some bs.

Likewise...

RC350: i dont doubt it can get expensive but i guarantee you if you come out here, you will pay for a different type of living for the same amount of money. Lets just say, it wont be what you expect but thats just my experience from moving out here. I sure miss Texas......later

Oh there is no doubt in my mind that there are many areas of the country where the cost of living is substantially higher. However, Austin is fairly pricey for Texas cost of living. I just wanted him to be aware that prices can vary pretty widely depending upon where in Austin you want to live.
