Did you dry off the wheels immediately after washing or did you drive home with them wet?

That could very well be the case. I'm pretty sure the lip on those wheels aren't chrome though.

I wish I knew what to tell you to do?

they are not chrome. they are polished with clearcoat. more than likely you damaged the clearcoat on the lips. Try using some wheel polish.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you Benny. If the rims have clear coat, wheel polish would not be the correct chemical to use. Wheel polish such as Never Dull will damage clear coat because of it's abrasive properties, but it does work great on non-clearcoated items.
smcginnis87, we are missing details here. When you say you used the soap at the car wash, what cleaner did you use? Did you use the foaming brush? Did you use the "wheel cleaner" that comes out of the sprayer, you know, the type that you spray on and let sit then rinse? As far as what your friend said, regular soap is not "hard" enough to remove clearcoat and I doubt it if carwashes would use chemicals harsh enough to damage vehicle clearcoats. If this were the case, they would not be in business long. What is possible is that there is a residual haze on you rims from something you either applies to them or something you ran through on the street. If your rims are clearcoated, I would try something simple like regular wax. You'd be suprised at what wax can remove. Other times, metal can "rainbow" when heated to extreme temperatures, but this usually only happens to rotors. It's highly unlikely that your rims heated up to that point. Either way, good luck and let us know how everything turns out.

+1 on the above. I'd try a cleaner wax or a clear coat safe polishing compound such as Kit Scratch Out (Wal-Mart, $2; best stuff on Earth).

I used the foaming brush, so you just think taking some regular car wax is ok on it?

wax certainly won't hurt it, but if that doesn't fix it, try that Scratch Out stuff; it's very mild and clear coat safe.

Yeah, unless it's a cleaner wax, it won't remove any residue that might be stuck on there.

Try the polish and post up pics of the problem if you can.

To bad more people don't realize that Volk wheels are not bare metal. I've seen to many people try abasive polish on that thin coat of clear.
