Did I F**k Up My Clutch
Yesterday I got some new tires BFG g-force KDWs ( Bad *** tires BTW) so the night before I went out to take care of the old tires by doing some donuts....This Z is my first car with a manual so ive never done donuts with a MT. So i reved up to about 3k turned the wheels and popped it in first, got it spinning but when i tried to go into second it wouldnt let me put it in gear and the clutch would not come out at all it just stayed depressed all the way. I immediately turned off the car because it smelled like burnt clutch and continued to smell for 30 mins. I just want to know why the clutch got stuck and if i did any damage to it. Im sure i melted it or something but ever since that happened its been fine.. just kinda scared me a little. What do you guys think??
Have you tried driving the car ? Does it feel like the clutch is slipping/doesn't catch right? If so, yea, your clutch is prob toast...I did it to my 97 Eclipse GST while trying to race someone...clutch got stuck at the bottom but the wheels kept spinning...not good
sonds like you hyperextended the clutch and it got stuck, yes more than likely you scortched the disk and flywheel, you may get about 5-10,000 more miles out of it and it may start slipping on you, monitor it closely...
question is... if you had been spinning your wheels, how can you tell the difference of smell between the tires and clutch? As a first time MT driver i wouldn't expect you to know such things...
the tire smell lingers for quite some time, but that doesn't explain you clutch getting stuck... IMO monitor it closely and if it feels any different, swap your rims and take the car to the dealer... tell them your clutch was suddenly stuck and have them check it out...

i was practicing inclines in my car and my clutch got stuck so i just pressed the clutch in and hit the brakes. i smelled clutch for a while but i was able to put an addtional 42,000 miles more on my car with 4K shifts and redline shifts, also 3 k launches. and it still grabs hard. so i think you should be okay but do montior it closely like the fellow members has mention above. but if you dont want to worry just go ahead and buy a clutch and flywheel and keep it at home so you dont have to worry about it not being in stock when urs is going out.

I have an '06 with a manual and I've tried to light up the rear wheels on dry pavement but I haven't been able to. On my Mustang GT I could spin the wheels no problem. I think its a combination of the Z's sticky tires, and 18" rims that make it hard. I have to admit that I haven't tried dropping the clutch at above 4,000 rmps so that would probably do it, but I'm afraid something will break.
a clutch is not a part that can be warrantied. It is a wearable part, just like brakes. MOST (about 90%) warranty companies wont cover wear and tear parts like tires, brakes, clutches and so on.
i highly doubt it... most warranties will not cover wearable items such as: Clutches, brakes, throw-out bearings and the like... unless it is found to be a manufacturer defect... so if they find that your clutch is excessively worn they will most likely not replace it... but if it's simply broken but still HAD plenty of life left they most likely will...
but it all depends on the tech, and what he tells the service rep...
it's the same with the tires... yes it is a wearable item, however there are a few people that have had them replaced FOR FREE under TSB or warranty of some sort... because of a Manufact. defect... but i myself have had NO LUCK with that... i just ended up paying for an alignment... and new tires...

i think my clutch got stuck earlier. smelled like burnt clutch. now i am afraid to drive it. how do i know if my clutch is toast?
also if it is, what is a good replacement clutch? and do i need to get a flywheel too?....i dont want some heavy raicing clutch because this is just an everyday car. thanks in advance guys.
