There is something special and unique going on at TWS... more details as they are finalized.

It'll be a unique event... and will blow the doors off Mayfest. Plus, you don't have to be a member of the Party to attend!

Hey, I'm a laid-back Austin dude....Jeff, you need to drink a beer or two and relax!

This is supposed to be fun - it sure isn't worth stressing over.

Wow, was all that directed at me? Jeff, really, I'm rather disapointed at the amount of vitriol in your response to my post that I thought was rather innocuous. Let me explain a few things that were going on behind my post:

1) Obviously, all the JEH events have been run by Drivers Edge, as would have been the S2KCA event if it had happened. However, S2KCA no longer has any affiliation with the event at all, hence my comment that Driver's Edge has "taken it over." My apologies that my wording has pissed you off.

2) Greg specifically said that only about $5000 of the $20,000 or so he needed so go ahead with the event has been sent in. Based on a $245 entry fee, that's how I came up with the 20 to 30 car registration number. I'm not exactly sure what you thought I was trying to say, but in no way was car composition any part of my post.

3) On Thursday at 1:52pm, I received an email from TDE with sever very specific points - a) a new oportunity for a track event May 3-4, b) clockwise configuration, c) $245 entry fee, d) for solo-approved drivers only, e) an immediate response of interest is needed by Saturday, and f) email confirmations would be sent to registrants on Monday. From what you report, however, that's not exactly the case. Please don't get mad at me for simply reporting what had every indication of being the official word - not all of us are privy to the inner workings of TDE, and I'm trying to do people a service by informing them of what's going on.

4) The whole "horseshit" and "kidstuf rivaly crap" thing... Hmm. I don't know how to respond to that, really. Did you notice the smiley in my post? Like Michael, you too have met me in person. Did I ever give you any reason to believe that I'm interested in anything beyond something frieldly? It's the same as when I get together with friends for racquetball, cards, fantasy hockey, autocrosses - or, even, dyno days. We had a great time with the Dallas area 350Z guys at our last dyno, for example.

5) Speaking of - we here in Dallas happen to have a very open and relaxed policy regarding non-S2000 cars at our events. I would LOVE to have 350Zs show up at our autocrosses (and have invited Michael et. al. before.) In fact, we are specifically set up for other makes - we often have more Miatas than S2000s, and they have their own classes to compete in. ANY car that shows up in enough numbers (only 5) gets its own championship points class. Or most recent event, a bluebonnet drive to Ennis, had dozens of BMWs join in for a very successful tour.

In any case, Michael, thanks for backing me up and I'd just like to remind everybody that our next Autocross is May 10th and you're all invited to join us.

Cone dodging? Bah, haven't you seen Hayashi's Pyramid of Speed?

Ok, actually, my worst nightmare is completely missing the course, taking out half the cones, leaving big orange streaks on the 350, and making a big *** out of myself.

PM me the details and if I can get Brad to go, then I'll go. I don't want to be the only 350 taking out cones.

Michael.

hah, yeah, one step above drag racers at least Just so you know, you aren't the only one that was concerned hitting a cone might mark up the Z, hah. I thought I was the only one!

Default Canceled

I got the email notice the other day - the weekend has been canceled. TDE wasn't able to get enough people interested in the event. Sorry, folks.

In the meantime, slake your thirst for speed at our autocross!

Umm, pardon me, by I have to disagree with you on just a couple of minor points here. ..

1) SpeedVentures decidedly is a DE group. We may not do things the same as Driver's Edge, but we believe timing is a very useful tool in improving your driving. How do you measure improvement without timing? It seems a little vague to just say "well, that felt faster, so I'll just guess it was an improvement". With timing, you know if you've improved.

2) Thanks for the misinformation, but your insurance probably will cover an incident on track. In fact, of the few incidents we've ever had happen all of them were covered.

3) Thanks for the vote of confidence saying SV isn't half the group DE is...I'm sure your opinion is based upon your experience of driving events with us, right? For a guy who claims to hate rivalries, you sure seem set on creating one based upon your post.

4) The Septmeber SpeedVentures event at TWS is definitely going to happen. This is actually the one part of your post that made me laugh. You say we're not half the group DE is, but at least we go through with events when we schedule them, as the drivers at our last TWS event saw. Yes we lost a lot of money on that event, but we don't run this group like a hobby; we don't open registration on an event, and cancel it because we didn't sell enough spots. The reality is, every group is going to have events that do well, and events that do poorly; we aim to be professional enough to go through with all of them.

Registration is now open for our September, 2003 TWS event, which is our "Nationals". Drivers will be coming from all over the country for this event, so if you want to meet the quick guys you've been reading about at http://www.pulpracing.com and other sites, this is your chance! http://www.speedventures.net/9-26-2003_event.asp

LOL, I do. I'd pay good money for that.

In all seriousness, Doug wouldn't be coming to TWS, would he? or any of the other NSX Files "cast"? Either way, I'll be at this event, hopefully as a participant, at least to watch.

Well, I'm John Wurth, but you may know me as the guy who gave up on his 93 RX-7 and bought the T1 Z06 for the 2002 finals (in a "nice Cheating Bastard move" as Doug put it). Aaron Bitterman, the man who caused Doug to utter more "coulda shoulda woulda's" than probably anyone in recent history will be there. Probably the fast Viper guys will be there: John Dearing, Joe Bregante, etc. Most of the quick S2000 guys will be there, probably Jason Rhoades, Dave Kennedy, Martin Rausch, etc.

Doug is an unknown. He's...ah...about to go through a major lifestyle change, and won't be at the track for a little while, but he claims it's temporary. And no, he's not going broke or getting a sex change...but maybe it's all just a front? I'd guess there'll be an update on his site in the next two weeks that'll tell you all about it.

Anyway, most of the "cast" will be there. Come on out and join us!

hah, yes, I know who you are, so to speak. I have read all the pages about twice probably. I have a lot of downtime working in a 24 hour NOC

Doug isn't married...right? Guessing either he is going to have to get a job again, or getting married, but I'll keep an eye on the site.

Thumbs up

I'll be there. I enjoyed the April event a lot.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how well I do against the others - I know I'm chicken in a couple of the corners at TWS and I'd like to know just how far off the pace I am.

Hey Michael-Dallas! We still have a few spots open for the autocross! http://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthrea...hreadid=117867 Anybody else interested in a fun, laid-back autocross this Saturday is welcome.

Doug just updated his site with the pertinant information. He expanded all the OTC stories, but be sure you read the text of the OTC wrap-up here: http://www.nsxfiles.com/otc8_2003.htm
