Default New Radar Guns

A while back, I seen on the news that Tx. State Trooper will be using a new tech. to catch speeders. Its a radar grid of some sort. Do anyone have any info on this? If so would that make the current top of the line radar detectors useless i.e. 8500, Valentine, etc.?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I foresee the wedge style coming back and teflon paint being added to dealer options.

Dude POP 2 has been out for a few years now. This is new technology, only about 2 - 3 mths old. Not all dept. has this tech as of yet. But I and we need more info. We all speed at some pt. I did hear this will mainly be used on the interstates though.

^ you got paced......pop2 is an instant on radar that gives the police a semi rough estimate of your speed. It is not perfect, but it will tell the officer that you are going over the posted speed limit. They used pop and laser in MD, and Pop is almost as good as laser. The only thing that gives it away is when they POP the car ahead of you, your detector will pick up the scatter for about a second or two, be ready to slow down! Laser has less scatter so it's harder to pick up.

I remember reading something about pop...the guns come with a disclaimer that said citations should not be issued based on the guns readings b/c it takes the reading too fast to be accurate....anyone else hear something like this?

This is my understanding as well. However, I have a friend who was given a ticket by a trooper who claimed to be using the new POP3. My friend didn't know any better so he just paid the ticket.

From my information, more unscrupulous officers will issue citations based upon POP2/POP3 but, due to the manufacturers disclaimer, it is unlikely that a citation based upon a POP3 reading would stand up in court if you contested it.

Another tactic I've seen them use is this:

They will hit you with POP3 (since most detectors cannot "see" that band) to get an estimate on your speed without you knowing. If you are speeding, then they hit you with Ka band to issue a citation.

POP3 is very annoying and I tend to disable that band in the city, but it does give you a heads-up when you are being tracked and an advanced warning that Ka band radar is about to flood your world and your detector is about to light up like a Christmas tree.

I do...no tickets on my record. I have a good friend that is a traffic lawyer. I got pulled over when i was doing 135+ in a 55 or 60 i think, over by Texas Stadium on I-35 one night (1 or 2am), racing a twin turbo 300zx in the Vette, he didn't clock me but said he was going 110 and i was still pulling away...he was actually really cool about it, gave me a ticket for 101. He walked up and asked if there was an emergency and i just said no, i normally don't drive fast or do anything this stupid, i was just acting like an idiot and i know i shouldn't have raced him b/c of how dangerous it is but i wanted to look cool for my little brother, but i will definitely never do that again. He said he could have taken me to jail but since i pulled over for him before he even got close to me instead of trying to run (which the other guy did), and had no hits on my license he was going to write me up for 101. Anywho, he got that ticket dismissed, how...i have no idea.

Almost everyone I know.

I've always won. Any clever person can at least get it reduced or deferred or given the chance for a DDC (again).

Besides... You should ALWAYS contest. It is your duty. The more time the operators of those rolling toll collectors spend in court, the less time they have to drive our roads collecting tolls for the county coffers.

We need to do everything in our power to discourage this form of "taxation" and encourage actual police work. We don't lock our houses at night, put alarms on everything we own or drive, put tracking chips in our kids, and carry concealed weapons because some guy in a Nissan is going 17 over in a 55 mph zone.

always fight tickets. i got a ticket for speeding and not signaling while changing lanes. i took it to the assistant DA and he dismissed the lane change on the spot.
