Default My Day With StopTech!

My car is the first of 5 350Z's that are to be tested by StopTech. My test was last tuesday and the next 4 are scheduled (other Z's) for 12/10/02.

This is how the day went.

Arrived 9:00 am and started the testing process which consisted of 60-0 stops, 80-0 stops and 100-0 stops. Car was monitored by a radar gun for speed and stopping distance. Gun was hooked into a laptop. The also did J turn tests.

Braking runs started on factory original brakes. We did four tests of each. Then we did the J turn braking. That consisted of going into a 1/2 circle turn at a predetermined speed (approx 47) and slamming the brakes. Measurments were taken after each stop. This information is proprietary to Stoptech so I cannot say more on the J turns. The J turn data will not be available for another 10 days or so as they are crunching my numbers and will also crunch the other Z car numbers.

Needless to say, all the above test were performed first on my original brakes and then on the stoptech brakes. These tests were run with the 13.1" Stoptech Brakes. The 60-0 stopping distance decreased dramatically (much better) with the new brakes and the 80-0 and 100-0 tests were also better but not as great an increase in stopping distance. I was told the main reason for bigger brakes is the ability of the Stoptech system to stay cooler over repeated use and stop more consistently (which they did).

The testing also consisted of disabling the anti-lock brakes and testing which tires locked up first. Front or rear. On both factory and stoptech brakes the front tires locked prior to the rear. (the way it should be!)

Overall the Stoptech people are first rate. Very knowledgable, courteous and caring of my baby (I was concerned about that!)

I left the facility around 6:00pm with a StopTech kit but not MY kit.

Stoptech will do alot of number crunching on my Z's day as well as the other 4 they have coming in on 12/10/02 and then determine what is the best potential braking system for the new Z. They will then ship to my dealer the new system 13.1 or 14 rotors(whichever is determined to be best) along with the custom calipers and the then to be determined best sized pistons. The piston size is changable/switched to achive maximum results. And my dealer will then install them for free. (and send back the test kit)

So for my car for the day StopTech did this for me. They installed braided steel brake lines all the way around (front and back) and are only charging me $1000.00 for the new, yet to be released StopTech braking kit. These are the perks I received for letting them use my Z as the guinea pig!

Once again, wait till after 12/12/02 to get your system. Stoptech will then have all the numbers and will design the best braking system for the Z. I definetely recommend them as they are a FIRST RATE ORGANIZATION!

ANY QUESTIONS?

They installed the red as a test kit but my final kit will be black.

they look very nice inside the 18" wheels and there is defintley room for the 14" kit.

Price for the kits are 2000.00 for 13.1 and 2600 for the 14" kit.

Installation????????????

This is only a front braking kit BTW. The four wheel kit may (or may not) ber available down the road!
