I have 4 new speakers for the Z, and I know I can get the front ones in no problem by myself (had to open it up enough times from the D**N window motor going out) but I dont know wtf to do to get into the back ones!

Anyone know how I can open that sucker up to get all 4 of my speakers in? Im trying to do the speakers myself to save on the over installation price for my system. Shaves over $100 off the total price just by doing this.

You have to remove the side panels by the little side windows, then remove the entire plastic panel that houses the speakers. Before you can remove that large panel, you'll have to loosen the center cosole and remove some of the glove box faseners. It's not an easy task. Very tedious and time consuming. You'll also have to drill new hole to mount your after market speakers. Make sure the speaker ohmage is compatible with the factor system you are running also. If not, it's not going to sound good. If you have aftermarket amps, then no problem.

I'm all for saving alittle cash here and there......but is a $ 100.00 bucks worth all the hassle ? I'd just let a pro do it.

I only know that I've done this before on other vehicles & have not been happy with the results. Not from the product...but from the rattles & all the other crap I had to deal with from the " Do it yourself " project too save just a little bit.

lol im only a part timer so my check at the end of the week isnt that great, i'd have to save up for over a month to get the box, subs, amps, and speakers all put in at once. i have everything but the box, so im trying to pinch pennies lol

 

you now my car still hasnt rattled yet ive heard its notorious for rattling.. ive installed my own speakers.. well just the fronts because i heard it wasnt worth switching them out..

 

i thought that too that the rear were just filler, but when i swapped out the rears to boston pro 60's the sound was amazing. there was so much more sound depth

 

really? what kinda do u have in the front i just got some cheapy infinty ones i just wanted it a lilttle louder since i have subs and i cant hardly hear the coice anymore.. i want o completely swap all of the

 

It's a pretty easy DIY. Time consuming, but easy. I think I have taken every panel out of my car at one time or another. If I can do it, ANYONE can!

 

Also be careful not to break those small plastic things that hook the panels to the side. I broke a couple and the dealership will rip you off to get new ones.

It takes a bit of time (I had the center console out and and wired an amp at the same time) but it is not too hard. Take your time popping off the side panels though - I broke a few of the clips. Talk about rattling... (until I replaced them).

 

+1. I replaced my rears with 2-way Infinity Kappas. It helps out alot...

 

The rear hatch and bumper will rattle tremendously if a large amount of power is pushed. I for instance am pushing about 700 watts into one 12. It took awhile to work out all the rattles, but in the end was worth the effort. I had to lay 2 layers of Dynomat to the entire trunk. Which meant removing everything and layer all metal parts. The hatch had to be sound treated also, as well as the rear hatch break light. I had to lay a thin layer of silcone on it to tac it to the glass or it would rattle horribly loud. I had to place a sheet of dynomat behind the license plate and also had to silicone areas under the bumper.

What can I say though, I'm a perfectionist.

 

Too much for me.... Not the money but the hassel of having to take everything off. My W7 rattles the **** out of my car. But I can't hear it inside. One day I'll have to though.....

 

+1 on it being alot of work. I used a comination of dynomat and spray-n-bedliner. They stuff works really good but is super messy!

 

did yall use spacers for the front speakers im thinking of putting my fronts in the back since they are just 2 ways.. what are some good fronts that arent so expensive

 

I used spacers. The window would not clear the speaker magnet without them. I also sound deadened my doors too...
