Default TPMS question

Doh! I meant to put TPMS as the subject.....well anyway,
If I put 350z wheels on my car and it caused the TPMS sensor to go off, how do I get it to stop?

The tires and rims have never been seperated, they were literally removed from a stock 350z and put on my car. Now the TPMS sensor is going off.

I already tried disconnecting the negative wire from the battery and it did nothing.

Just wondering if I'm stuck with this little light going off, even though the wheels I have on are on another nissan vehicle.
Mind you the sensors are still on the Z wheels and were never removed, wheels are untouched. Sensors still on.
Any ideas?

is the 350z not yours?

the TPMS is mounted in the wheels, thats how it checks the air pressure.

and if you got the tpms from another z and put htem on yours, you have to go get them re programmed from the stealership.

yup the ones on your original wheels are programed to your car....if you still have them discount tire will remove them and reinstall them on your new wheels

Just like the guys said above...a set of TPMS is programmed for a specific car.

So if your new rims and tires have TPMS in them, you can go to Discount Tire and have them re-programmed to your car. If they dont have TPMS, then i would think Discount could turn it off, or at the very least the stealership could.

Good Luck! That light and beep are annoying!

When you remove a sensor from the wheel though, it needs to be rebuilt (or resealed). So Discount Tire will also charge you $5 per valvestem/sensor as well. So you're looking at $20 extra every time you remove sensors from one wheel and put them in another.

Also, I think I read that the batteries in the sensors are supposed to last up to 10 years....I think.

Definitely go to a dealership to get the reprogrammed. Also, it's easy to spot a Z that has these sensors just by looking at the valvestems.

I have a question related to this thread. Would the TPMS work on an 03 base? A version that never came with the TPMS to begin with? I'm guessing it could be lacking some programming or something to that effect?

Does anyone know about how much the stealership charges for reprogramming the sensors to your car (all 4)? I'm looking at buying some new stock rims with TPMS included and was just curious how much it would cost me every time I switch rims on my Z. Thanks!!

Don't waste your time going to DT to get them reprogrammed. They don't do that kind of thing. This is a nissan part with a nissan program. Discount just knows how to mount the valve stem/sensors to the wheels and that's it.

Just go to your dealership.

Correct... they use the Consult-II to program them.

Brand new they're like $250 a piece. A used set here on the forums goes for around $100 shipped....give or take a few bucks. Look in the wheel/tire section.

+1 on only the dealership being able to re-program your TPMS.

As a clarification, TPS refers to the sensors that are installed on your rims. TPMS is the part that recognizes the TPS and displays your tire pressure on your dash.

If possible, you really need to label the TPS before they are re-programmed (or even after) to ensure that they are always installed on the same location -- LF, RF, LR, RF. Once programmed, the TPS will need to be installed at the same location in order for the TPMS to recognize them. It should cost less than $100 for the TPMS to be re-programmed.
