Glad to hear you got it fixed. He's been really helpful with me, also. Since I can't switch maps, I had to go up there to get my 91 map loaded before I came out here.

It looked like a really nice place, but I don't know what Kansas would have along those lines haha.
Ya I was looking for a rental property but they are ridiculously hard to find around here. The apartment complex in this town only has 4 units lol. I really am in the middle of nowhere

Pat, this is just an "Old Man" speaking....but I would not worry about buying a house or anything as of now....I would concentrate on working, making money, saving money, and then in a couple of years....then start looking for places to invest your money into....But then again....I'm an "Old Man ! "

Don't just buy or invest in stuff just because somebody said it was a good deal...Only get or buy stuff if it is a good deal and you can benefit from it.....But make sure you have enough Capitol to finish what you get into in a short time period...or it can cost you a lot of money in the long run !

But like I said..."I'm an Old Man" so who listens to me ???

Hope to see to see you when you get back down here for the Holidays !

I agree with Chris. Just because you have a little bit of money, don't start spending. And definitely don't start spending a lot of money just because you are expecting to make more. You never know what could happen.

Didn't you say you got a company house? I would ride that for as long as I could haha.

When you get into the oilfield you get hooked on the money. If you aren't careful you build your lifestyle to be reliant on that. Try to save as much as you can. Much of the oilfield is a rollercoaster and you always need to have money put away.

Ya I see what you guys are saying. I can only ride out the company house thing til a little after the first of the year. I'm looking at a rental house that is kind of iffy. The owner is still deciding if he wants to rent it again or not. I have two contractors that I know personally looking at pictures and going off of descriptions of the house to give me a rough estimate of how much it would cost to finish up the house. We have an early estimate of $15k and the house is listed for $24.5k. I won't pay more than $20k for it though since it's only 1339 square feet. Has a nice size two part garage though but we will see. I planned on just rolling some extra cash into the mortgage if possible and just doing 10 years on the mortgage and pay it off a bit early. It really comes down to the total price though after finishing the remodel cuz my worst case scenario when I leave is having to rent it out and I probably can't charge more than $600 a month for rent and I need to be able to make some profit off of it over time and obviously you will have repair and maintenance costs as a renter. Got some number crunching to do if I want to be serious about it.

Eric, you're the one person I REALLY need to listen to cuz I know you've been in the oil and gas business for some time now.

Ya I've learned the hard way. When I got in it back in 2008 things were booming. Then in 2009 it fell off pretty bad. I kept a job, but the money went way downhill and almost wasn't worth sticking around. I'm still in it, obviously, and the money is good again.

2012 is supposed to be great around here. This time around I'm more educated about it all.

As for buying any kind of property or throwing money at iffy investments, I would strongly advise against't that. SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!

Look for ways to save your money and let it grow on it's own. Don't start buying expensive toys. Don't start jumping on fixer-upper-rental property. Get with a good financial guy (preferrably here in DFW) and be very frugal with your money.

I know that you have put alot of trust into your employer, but you have to remember one thing in the oilfield... 99.99% of the workers in the oilfield are there for the money, not the people. You have to cover your *** at all times. Always look for a plan B.
