Traffic violations could cost me my job so I don't lead going 15+ over the limit without a radar detector.

Craftsman never had lifetime warranty on all of their products, IIRC. They only offer that on certain things and most of their precision instruments (including torque wrenches) only get 1 year. I also found out the hard way several years ago but never had problems getting regular ratchets warrantied, though.

I've had a few different radar detectors, but I think I like my V1 the best. It also has lasted the longest without any issues. My Bel and Escort only lasted 2-3 years before they crapped out on me.

I've bought a used v1 before for like 250-300. I definitely need another one as I have a heavy foot...

I bought a used V1 last year with the latest firmware, original box w/ all the misc. accessories, and hardwire for $250. So the $250-$300 price tag is about right.

I also have a spare Escort Passport 8500 w/ Blue display that I am no longer using. It's like this one:

Amazon.com: Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar and Laser Detector (Blue Display): Car Electronics Amazon.com: Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar and Laser Detector (Blue Display): Car Electronics

If anybody is interested I would be willing to let it go at a reasonable price.

My old passport 8500 lasted me about 4-5 years. Bought it as a refurb from escort. I'm on an 8500 x50 now. Supposed to be as powerful as a v1 but valentine has the directional detection function that i would like to have. I think v1's are $400 new. As for the tools; most stuff i get from harbor freight but some stuff i get from snap on and matco through work because i need a high quality tool for work. They're expensive but do have a lifetime warranty so provided i don't lose them, i will never have to buy them again.

I got my 9500ix in August '10 for $380 shipped on Amazon. They had a 20% off offer going from the $465 price that was basically the reason I got it. The GPS feature is awesome, especially having driven the same routes to/from school. I had cars get pulled over right next to me because I slowed down and they didn't. I did get pulled over once, but was paced and just got a warning.

I don't really see what the hype is with the arrows on the V1, and I'd definitely prefer GPS over that. Although maybe it's something you have to try to understand.

I think that's how most people feel about the arrows until they try it out for themselves. The extra info that the arrows provide is more of a luxury that you grow accustomed to but do not want to lose.

I don't have the GPS feature, but I figure the GPS feature is kind of like that where you have to experience it to realize its benefits.

GPS locks out locations if you get the same frequency 3 times in the same spot, which is great for things like those radar speed signs. I also have it set to show my current speed since the speedo is off by 2 mph. Also does red light cameras, speed cameras, and other location based things but you have to keep it updated. I still get notifications about speed cameras in AZ even though they got rid of them. Cops are usually in front of you anyway, especially if they are running radar.

Do you have any examples of situations where the arrows helped? That's as close as I'll ever get to experiencing it myself probably.

Being both a X50 and V1 user I've ran the 2 side by side many times. I would say that the V1 has a slight edge over the Passport. It detects faster, even for simple Ka band, and the arrows do help you look in the right direction for the bogy. Many times if your detector goes off you're not sure if there's a speed trap in front of you, a cop that has is radar on that just pull up behind you from the on ramp, or another cop coming the opposite direction. Is it necessary? Not really since you're just suppose to slow down the minute it goes off. However it's one of those nice features to have.

I don't have any experience with the 9500 with GPS but I can see how it would be helpful. However my question is aside from the GPS feature did they improve the detection capability of the unit? When the 9500 first came out I remember reading it was basically the 8500 but with the new GPS feature.

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like the 9500 isn't much different from the 8500 detection wise. I also saw mentions of add ons for the 8500 to give you similar GPS features to the 9500 for about $200, so if you already have the 8500 it's cheaper to go that route. If you have nothing, then the 9500 gives you a newer, all in one package.

Edit: I mixed something up in the pricing when I double checked, the $200 is the difference in price between the 8500 and 9500 from a thread back in 2010, I think it's only $150 now. Someone else mentioned being able to add Escort Live to the 8500 and getting some of the same features as the 9500. The pricing on their site is weird, but it looks like Live by itself is $100, but only $40 to add with a detector at purchase.

I'll add a bit more to this. The V1 also has a counter that shows how many bogeys are around you. When you are hit with multiple bands, V1 not only informs you of the direction and the type but also indicates the strongest of the bunch.

Run the 9500ix in "expert mode" and it does the same thing. I changed mine as soon as I got it.

My first post. I picked up some oem brembos, they needed some touch paint. I bought the humbrol 54 on eBay. I don't know if they sent the wrong color, but the **** don't match. My Z is chrome silver. I wish I could keep the brembos stock brass/gold metallic, but I'll need to refinish them. Does anyone have stock brembos that they have painted? Just curious on what they look like. I was thinking of going with black. Thanks
