Default Need a VETERINARIAN (DFW)

Hey guys, about a week ago, my girlfriend's dog broke his leg with a clean snap. We went right into a vet to get x-rays, splint, meds, etc. Totaling to around $550.... We come back about a week and a day later because our dog's paws had become swollen, split, pussing, and smelling horribly! The doctor took off the splint and gave the dog, with his limbs just hanging, back to us saying that he needs surgery (which is going to cost around $4,500) even though they said the splint would heal his leg though not perfectly! So we left the vet with our dog and his HANGING LIMB, and we are out $550 because we were told this procedure is the way to go....We just don't have the money for the surgery and are looking for second opinions from other vets, but need to find a good, yet affordable veterinarian. If you have anyone and hookups in mind, please contact me. We would greatly appreciate it!

Phiooz,

I'm not too sure if you need an Emergency Vet or just an normal vet that can take care of the issue at hand.

My vet is in Lewisville & have gone to them for the past 15 years.
They have always been fine with my dogs. Although I haven't ever had anything this traumatic.

Here is the Addy:

Garden Ridge Animal Hospital
Dr. Pam Hendricks
349 N. Garden ridge Blvd.
Lewisville, TX
469-436-2199
972-323-1310 ( After Hours Emergency )

Good luck !

I will try that, thanks Chris.

We'll just go in for an examination and if they say that he needs surgery, then we will have to surrender him to SPCA because we cannot afford it.... I'm hoping the splint and bandages will work because they can just reapply it (hopefully with no extra charge other than the office visit)

Clean snap can't really be healed w/ a splint. It'd need surgery to have steel plates & screws to secure the bones together during healing. Sounds like it got infected too.

poor dog...i'm a big dog lover (no homo)

Yeah, the doctor said it was infected but he did not recommend anything or said what we should do to treat it. Ugh, the doctors were so vague on the information we needed to care for him until our next visit! Well, he didn't really give us information whatsoever. I do not recommend Banfield in Lewisville to ANYONE. Horrible service and not reliable AT ALL.

Thanks for the input everyone. I will be sure to update yall when I go to another vet today. I will probably try Garden Ridge Animal Hospital, Chris recommended. If you don't mind, I would like to use you as a referral so I can get a office visit exam.

Not sure if it's a stupid question but do they have health insurance for pets? For situations like this?

Oh yeah, Pet Insurance is a huge industry. lots of people are getting it these days since it costs so much to do anything medically or surgically.

Good luck with everything OP. All dog owners she really look into pet insurance. I have around $15K in coverage for my dog for around $55 a month. The coverage is the best you can buy in that it never ceases unless you stop paying. For example, many coverages will cover your pet up to the $15K in a given year but then will cease to cover you the following year citing a "pre-existing condition."
