Default Just moved here and need an inspection...

Hey guys got here yesterday and I need to get an inspection done on my car so that I can get a TX drivers license so I can start working. My question is where in the Garland area can I go to get passed with my tint (20%) and my exhaust (hi-power replica)?? Also will they fail me for having a big crack on the passenger side of my windshield? Thanks

wow your in the prime location for a state inspection hookup. if your worried about your windows - roll them down and unplug them. The crack wont matter unless your view of the road is blocked in some sort of way

There should be PLENTY of spots in Garland.. Im sure someone in that area will chime in.

They don't care about exhaust here (I don't think at least)..we don't live in Cali.

Tint roll your windows down is what my inspector told me they won't roll them up.

The windshield ya as long as it's not covering your view I don't think they'll fail you.

If the windshield crack is within your eye vision of the road, then you will not pass. Meaning if it crosses into your vision of view.....you will have to get it replaced. But as long as it is not too bad....you will be OK.

Why don't you just get it fixed ? I would hate to drive with a broken / cracked windshield. I know ..... money, money, money.....you don't have it.

We all are a little low on bank funds. But at some point, I would get it repaired. As for the window Tint.....that will be easy like everyone stated.

Good luck dude !

Since your in Dallas county they do an emissions test Aja the sniffer, so if you have test pipes, you'll fail, but if it's just your exhaust, your fine. The window tint is iffy. A guy I work with took his car in and he rolled his windows down and pulled the fuse out and they failed him for his windows not functioning. I can't say that's true for everywhere or that it's even true since I was not personally there but I've never known the guy to lie either. It shouldn't be hard to get an inspection in garland though. Not to be a jerk but most of those shops just care about your cash so some of them will pass almost anything.

ya man 364 days of the year, test pipes ftw, that one day where you finally have to get an inspection, fml...
You either have to get a bunk inspection or take the time to put your cats back on, which isn't hard but it's still a PITA

There is no sniff test for a obd2 test. You just plug the connector into the obd2 port and if their is no emission related dtc and the sensors are in readiness you are fine. The inspector however is suppose to check for cats but I have rarely seen that done.

interesting. I have non fowlers so I don't have the check engine light and I have resonated tp's that look like high flow cats. I wonder if I could get lucky and pass when my inspection finally comes around. Only thing is you can really smell my exhaust with the tp's

The typical inspector usually don't know how to diagnosis a car and tell if anything wrong with it. You should be fine as long as your safety passes like tint. Don't take it to a dealer cause the tech will know when they hear the car and smells the fumes. That is usually how I fail a car for not cats. In ur cases since u have the resonated tp, no one could fail u saying there is not cats cause they can't look inside and tell if they are.

^^^correct - I got non foulers to make mine go away and I made the mistake of clearing all codes BEFORE I went - (basically putting everything pending status).

I had to drive around for 30 mins and I passed (originally failed since evap and o2 sensors were in - not ready status)

but it worked and Im in the green since the non foulers..

20% is perfectly legal. It's been a while since I was doing inspections, but I think anything less than 10% is no go. Just call ahead to double check but I'm pretty sure you'll be fine at 20%.

It's not really legal. Legal in TX I believe is 35%. But most places won't care, or just leave the windows rolled down they won't pull them up.

Q, the allowed tint is a 20% maximum.

It is usually stated with a sticker on one of your windows if you had it done within the law specs. The VESC-20 is basically stating that the tint is within the 20% tolerance.
