Might Re-Locate to Dallas,TX
Hello, I would like a little info from you guys/gals. My job might be re-locating me from Southern California (los Angeles to be exact)to Dallas,TX. If I decide to go through with this I would really like to know the cost of living and the leisure activities you have in this area of TX?
Right now just to give an example, gas is about 2.55-2.65 per gallon, a DECENT condo is 250k-350k, to eat out for lunch is about 7-11 bucks. There of course is plenty many leisure activities to choose from clubs, bars, movies, plays, comedy shows, blah blah.
I would really appreciate any info you can provide me. I'm 24 years old and I'm single so I hope the girl action is good as well. Thank you

cost of living is about on par ewith the nation's average.
Depending on where in Dallas you live, a 2000 sqft house will go from 150k to 500k if you go crazy ... average is about 200ish. Alot depends on what you are willing to drive.
Gas is between 2.09 and 2.39 depending on day and location (premium).
What to do ... well, I could go on all day. I lived in Georgia, Washinton D.C., and Nashville .... Dallas kicks all their butts in my book
Worth every penny to move

WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW thanks. Well I'm willing to drive I've been doing it here in SoCal. I only want to buy so 150k-200k would great for a 2br/2ba place if possible. I've heard the women action in Texas period is great. How bad is traffic??????
350trackz how old are you and where in Texas do you live?????

For 150k to 200k you can get a 4 bedroom house here(2k to 3k sqr feet), I live in Flower Mound (not far from DFW airport) and I got my 3 Bedroom house for 130k. I went to School at UCLA, it will not be that big of a change culture wise for you. The main thing that sucks coming from So Cal to Dallas is that the Closes Beach to here is like 5 hours away (and its not even a good beach). The Girls here are off the Chart. Just as hot as the LA girls, but more of them and not nearly as hard to please as the SoCal Girls are(if you know what I mean)

The traffic is not as bad as LA. Women here are phenominal !!! I am 27 and I live in the Dallas area.
The Dallas area is actually pretty great. I live in Lewisville (not far from ChazzG) and my husband and my house (3 bedroom, 2 bath) was right at 125k, I'm close to everything I need in the suburbs, and my commute to central Dallas everyday is no more than 35 minutes each way.
And whenever I get the urge to hit up the bars/clubs, lower Greenville and Deep Ellum are only about 45 minutes away.
I can't really comment on the women, though.

Well thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate them.
From what everyone as stated it seems like a no brainer to move. Man the cost of house there (DFW) is great hopefully (I don't see why not) they should pay me my Cali wage and I should be able to almost live like a king without having to get a roommate. I'll definitely be going for my own home if house are in the 125k-200k range.

Well I just spoke to my supervisor at appears that I might actually get a pay increase for moving and setting a new facility and there is a good chance of the company helping us SoCal folk move to the DFW area, our building is supposed to be located right outside of Dallas.
Man I'm so excited, we are supposed to receive some info from the department in about a week or two on the whole process.
I hope there is some nightlife during the week, because my schedule might be a Fri-Mon thing.
So everybody what areas (names of cities) are good to buy a house in and the cost, much appreciated?

THanks for the pm's, I sent messages back.
A little more info for everyone. My job will need us there by at least Sept 6th, so I'm thinking I should be moved out there by August sometime. I'll keep the thread updated.

I moved to Dallas three years ago from LA. I was living in Hermosa Beach while going to UCLA, and moved here for work. The cost of living here is a joke. Whereas in LA 100K/year still makes you live paycheck to paycheck, in Dallas you can have pretty much whatever you want. The gas is 40 cents cheaper, the really nice restaurants are abundant and not out of reach in price, and you will not miss the LA traffic. So far I have very few complaints, but the night life here in not at all comparable. I will be here for three more years and then I will move back, but I surf, so Dallas is killing me in that way.
There are plenty of hot girls here just like every other city, but I must dissagree with chazzg as far as Dallas being equal to LA. Remember that there are a lot of hot girls from Dallas that live in LA, but I am yet to meet a hot chick from LA that now lives in Dallas.
When you get closer to coming here PM me. I live in the Uptown area which is about 1-2 miles north of downtown. The area is very similar to Brentwood along San Vicente with restaurants and shops within walking distance. The prices where I live will be a lot more than the suburbs, but as chazzg mentioned, you will get a ton more for your money outside of Dallas.
My absolute favorite part of Dallas is how different it is from LA. You can drive south of downtown for 20 minutes and see cows. The culture here is great and the people are very easy to like. When you go out to a bar you can have a conversation with women without them looking at the watch you are wearing or wondering if that is your Ferrari parked out front.
Good luck.

AHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Boz, thanks for another perspective from a fellow SoCal to Dallas move. Well I don't surf but I do like to take drive along the PCH, eh I can give that up for a while.
I know I won't miss the traffic and I've heard Texas people (actually Southerners) are real inviting individuals and care more about the person than the wallet.
Well as time draws nearer I'll be sure to contact everyone on this thread. Thank you

i live in bedford.. nice little town in the middle between dallas and fort worth called "Mid-Cities" which includes Hurst Euless and Bedford. my family lives in a 4br 2ba 3600sq. ft. house for 153K. you just gotta look around. i would tell you, if u want to avoid higher housing costs, dont buy in colleyville, southlake or carroll. HEB is pretty cheap but very nice to live in.
as far as girls, im 17. trust me, there's plenty and in Texas... well you can imagine. i seriously think we have a good overall gene pool here. there is a higher "concentration" of fine girls here than most places i've visited.... so i think ur well off in that area.

I just to live in Plano. Everything they said about Dallas is true. The only negative I can see is that the weather sucks in Dallas. Its really hot and humid in the summers. Cold in the winters and storms every other week. I really don't miss that in Vegas......sunny everyday. However, I do miss the really cheap housing market. Just to get a 2000 sqft home starts at 400K now. The market has gone crazy here......houses go up like 30K every month.
My wife and I did the moved here 2.5 years ago from Redondo Beach to the DFW area (Lewisville), like Christi said Lewisville is close to everything but far enough out of the city. We sold our house their 2,100 sq ft for 401,000 and purchsed our brand new house for 2,780 sq ft for 175,000 and its value has shot up alot. I still hate the weather and to be honest it doesnt compare to the LA area on the fun factor at all but its a great comprimise.
Thanks for all the info everyone. What is everyone's input on how the areas (personal attitudes) compared to Los Angeles or any other place in the country? I know its a weird statement/question, but here in SoCal sometimes people can be a little too into themselves and not very engaging/inviting for a conversation.
Overall I think my mind is just about made up in coming to Dallas. I'm going to keep my house here in SoCal (just bought it as a matter of fact) and I will buy a house in an area outside of Dallas (3br/2ba, 1500-1800sq ft) for hopefully 160-180k. By keeping my house in Cali I will always have the option of going back to Cali to visit or live once again.
There doesn't really seem to be any downsides to Dallas area, of course like all places in the world they'll present themselves after I've moved. I would also like to know what brought the outsiders (people not from Texas) to Dallas or areas nearby?
Thanks again for everyones comments and input, its much appreciated.

Trust me, Unison8, in Dallas, we're A LOT more laid back and easy going than the people I've met in LA. People will smile and wave, they'll help out someone in need (unless it's a bad area, of course), and the Z meets are always great.
