if its for sure the piggyback you're going to use and tune with, it sure wouldn't hurt you

not sure it'll be huge gains since you don't have cams or headers, but should still get some extra power. Main thing is it'll force the car to run at and stay with aggressive timing and not go down in power like what the stock ECU wants to do

So wait, EU can override the ECU's timing-control that seems to screw with me every once and a while? Count me in! I guess I'll get headers and EU and tune my A/F to perfection (or have AAM do it)

The EU is a great addition to an NA car, and pretty reasonably priced. We've extracted about 10-13whp true WHP by tuning NA cars. Timing can be advanced or retarded, and logged in real-time, and fuel can be added/subtracted via injector pulse width changes. The NA people only need the EU unit, and the complete harness for tuning. And in the future, if you decide to go FI, you are all set, with just the addition of a pressure sensor and harness.

i heard the stock ecu has 3 different timing maps it can choose. the only way to lock those in is by a reflash, as they copy the same map to all locations. eu will only advance or retard timing based off of what the ecu is doing, hence the ecu will still switch to a different map under different conditions still.

The ECU will switch to a map under a different condition, but will EU correct over top of the ECU's specs to get back to the timing level it needs to be at? I'd love to be able to tune for higher octane at the track. I have like 14.0 at 2800rpms, the rest of my A/F is like 13.1 from 3k to 4300, and about 13.8 from 4300 to 5500...and then it drops down to 13.0/12.9 till redline.

The EU will not currently compensate if the map swaps on you...

However it is in the works to use the EU to SET timing instead of adjust it.

(Then of course it won't matter what your stock ECU says.)

Well, its time for me to weigh out the differences between EU and UTEC
