Default UTEC - Technical question...

While setting up my HyperTerminal on my laptop to connect to the UTEC. I only get a connection type using COM3. Now I also notice that the UTEC for the Z has a USB cable input and Rj-12 cable for serial connection but the user guide does't cover what or how they are used. My laptop is a Hp ZV6000 with all the bell and whistle except a DB9 serial port.

Would it be safe for me to assume that the USB or Rj-12 can be used in the same fashon as the DB9 to connect to the UTEC if configured to ues COM3? All port setting are currently set as per the directions in the users guide (bit per second 19200).

Help?

***Disclaimer*** I have no UTEC jet.
My understanding is that UTEC USB connection should work same as serial. Did you connect USB cable? Did “found new hardware” window pop up? Did you install USB drivers?

Port# will depend on other hardware and drivers installed on your laptop.

If you don't have a serial cable you will have to purchase a USB cable. The software upgrades section of the website has the proper USB drivers which should allow you to connect by USB instead of a DB9 Serial Cable.

Thanks,

P.S. The RJ-12 adapter uses a RJ-12 to DB-9 harness so you will still need to use a DB-9 port on your laptop.
