Default Staying N/A... eManage Ultimate or Blue?

I know the ultimate can control timing and datalog in addition to AFR control, but is it really worth the extra $300-400? I have an autosport harness and an eManage blue sitting beside me and am debating what to do. These are my mods:

Popcharger, Crawford v5, MREV lower collector, Alphawerks headers (soon/maybe), kinetix cats, jic y-pipe, fujitsubo exhaust

Do I really need the ultimate or will the blue + a dyno tune do just as well?

I don't think the blue can advance timing so in your case it won't give you what you want.

Get the ultimate.

go with the Ulitimate or just get a UTEC and be done with it.

Can either of those devices raise the rev limiter like a reflash can?

WHat does UTEC have that makes it worth being double the price of EU?

I'm not going F/I within the next 3 years (or when my engine dies out on me), so that point is moot.

I just want something that can tune for full N/A mods so I can run her up to 6600 safely without worrying about slowly killing the engine by running lean. Is it worth $400 to tune timing or not?

<- On a tight budget.

As others have said, UTEC all the way. I also am staying NA but going much more hard core. I love the ability and safty the UTEC gives. Just save up a bit more and get it. You wont be disappointed!

Wren,

Since you indicated you are on a tight budget, I would go ahead and install the basic eManage blue, and just use it to dial in your AF ratios. On a basic NA setup, the vast majority of your power gains will come from optimizing your AF ratio, rather than advancing the factory ignition timing.

I say go for it!

I think it is... That's where the fun starts.

Being able to pull timing can sometimes be helpfull too. I pulled 2 degrees of timing around the TQ peak and it actually made more HP approaching redline. And there was no loss of midrange either.

By reducing ping in the midrange the ECU was comfortable advancing timing up high. This way I was able to put in even more advance at high RPM.

You won't regret getting it. Your car can be tuned safer with more power and better efficency.

I agree with Sharif to just install the Blue at this point. You can see what kind of results you get from A/F optimization, while at the same time datalogging other factors to see what, if any, opportunities you may have with timing adjustments. Heck, your timing may be right where you want it without any adjustment needs.

OK well if I can figure out how to get this thing wired up I'm going to give it a shot. Have a used autosport harness so its cut to **** so this is going to be a hassle... that + my solder isnt wanting to melt with a simple lighter, gotta go buy a torch.

Interesting topic.

So Emanage cannot raise the rev limiter & governor like Flash, but allow you to tune your AF and others to your liking.

UTEC can does all that of a Flash + a lot more? Please correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not too familiar with these.

Correct. A UTEC let's you do both

On the NA car, just like forced induction, timing is everything. If it were me, I would do a UTEC as well. I originally toyed with the harness + Emanage blue, but it was not worth the time to wire it all up to even make it work, and I found the UTEC far easier to work with than the EM

thanks,

so instead of getting a TS reflash.

I can spend about twice as much and get the UTEC Unit, and raise the rev limiter, governor, and tune my system.

It's also future proof?

The UTEC can not do everything a reflash can, but it can do the major functions most people care about. The Emanage Ultimate is also an alternative that I have found to be extremely user friendly and very good at data logging.

+1

They each have attractive advantages over the other.

I can only think of 1 thing a flash can do that a UTEC cannot (cam timing). Not a significant difference in my eyes, as 1. 99% of those with cams are not running cams so aggressive as to need to adjust the cam timing and 2. most tuners have little to no experience with it. I've seen a few customer cars that were flashed, and then eventually went to UTEC's, and made more consistent power, especially from 5k up. Do a search for my dyno and you'll see this same scenario repeated on my own car a few months back in Januart.

Alex - 2 people come to mind off the bat.....one I have first hand experience with, as he did my car and will be doing it again soon (located in CT, I can refer you to). The other I know well enough, and have done quite a few forced induction cars (MRC). I've been doing it for quite some time as well and am quite proficient at , I just don't have the time lately to even think about tuning.

Thanks Z1Perf for the info.

So for a tuner like me, what UTEC package you'd recommend and how much would it cost?

I don't have any experience on tunning Nissan but been doing quite a few on Honda's Uberdata, etc.
